  • Room Reservations at Ponca City Nats

    All,

Butch Webb tells me some folks have not been able to get the 'rate' for the Econolodge in Ponca City for the Nationals.

I talked with the folks who run the place a few minutes ago and they say the $49.99 rate is for a single (one bed) ... which is what was quoted to me. If there's a problem with that, the management says just tell them you're with the boat races and they'll make sure you get that rate.

Now, if you go for more than a single... the price may be different.

    Their number is (580) 762-3401.

We stayed there in 2004 for the Nationals. Not too shabby of a place. And they got a pool. The pool sold it for me haha.

Well, I sure hope to see you out there. You're good competition and I miss watching you out there on the water with everyone else.

Haha that Saturday (the 16th) that the race is on is my birthday. I will be the big 19 lol. So i guess as long as I can find something to go out and do that night in Ponca... we will come. Lol.

So in short. Yes we are coming bringing a LOT of stuff to race too. Everything from A Runabout to Super E Hydro. Can't wait to see you guys. This will be the first race we have made in quite some time, so go easy on us. I for one am worried I will be too rusty to be good competition out there. But thats what testing is for aswell to clean out those cob webs. We will see. I am soo anxious.

John, as I recall, it's illegal to be 19 and out and about at night in Ponca City! You can be arrested for driving while young in Ponca !

Dan, how about some directions to the race site, after we get to Ponca City.

Directions to Race Site Once you're in Ponca City

Lake Ponca is on the northeast side of Ponca City. Most folks will be coming in from the west from I-35 or from the south U.S. 412 from Tulsa and up 177 into Ponca City.

From the West off I-35: Take Highway 60 into Ponca City. First light is at the northwest corner of Conoco/Phillips' huge tank farm. Keep going east on what has now become South Ave. Go east until you get to 14th Street. (Dixie Dog is on southeast side, Ponca Tire is on northwest side, and a new Conoco Truckstop convenience store is on the northeast side of this intersection which is U.S. 177 and 14th Street. Turn left.

The EconoLodge is not quite a mile north on 14th Street (on the west side).

Coming from the South: On 177 first light is Old Highway 60. Keep moving north on U.S. 177 which joins South Ave. (see above) at the intersection with the Dixie Dog etc. You will now be on 14th Street (177 just becomes 14th Street at South Ave.) Econolodge is less than a mile north of that intersection on the west side.

To the Race Site: From the Econolodge take 14th Street north to second traffic light (Highland Avenue / Lake Road) Turn right and follow Lake Road until you see a large automatic car wash on the north side of the road, take a left before you cross Turkey Creek Bridge. Follow what is about to become L.A. Cann Road (There'll be "boat race signs" along through this area) to the right, across a little bridge and by Pauline's Supper club. You'll then cross the "canal bridge" between West and East Lake Ponca... keep following the black top to the top of the hill and turn right on Marina Drive and back into the race area.

Any problems, call me on my cell (405) 742-4138. I'll be in Ponca Wednesday through the end of the race and will have my cell with me at all times.

                          NBRA nats

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Nats this year. It will be only the second Nats I have missed in 19 seasons of racing. My trailer will be there though with my Dad running my D-Runabout, Alan Owen running my C-Runabout, Jimmy Homfeld running my E-Runabout and a driver to be named later running my D-Hydro. I hope everyone has a fun and safe time!!!!!!!!!

Good luck and good racing to those that do get to go.
