what was the clearance and what were the rings pre-gapped at, If correct they should never be sticking pistons. I measure at the skirt at the pin and at the ring land and I never use the rings that come with the pistons. How are the pipes set up wet or dry, how is the filler block bedded in etc....

Put a set of vertex pistons in this past year. No problems like you speak of.
