      pick up

you can run as high as you dare, the prop shoots water into the pickup like a fire hose!
We can also use a test wheel with no problems!!

              Merc 55 block

The NBRA folks run both D (40) and E (44) MOD so if your in the mid USA it will be able to run there. We run both D and E MOD classes with Merc's and have full fields at almost all races. Check the NBRA website for the engine specs by class.

                    Cost

The cost can be anywhere from $4000 to $6000 for a complete rig used. Depending on the condition and the engine makes a big difference. Also age of the boat plays into the cost. If you build a new engine the cost can cover a wide range depending on how far you go with machining. A fishing Merc power head is fairly easy to come by for a very reasonable cost but then you add the stacks, tower, gear foot, ignition, carbs, fuel system, new pistons, bearings and machine and assembly work. At this point were in the mid $6500 range or greater.

If all works out you will see our new sideways mounted 44 at hillsdale, pipes running straight out the back! looks like something out of AREA 51

If you are talking only the powerhead than I would say the one I build cost $600 for machine work, $100 for each piston with rings, $700 for exhaust, and then carbs and electronic ignition $700 plus a used block to start with say $200.. So I would say somewhere between $2200 to $2800 but many times you can get a good deal on a used unit and then get it freshened up

Here is a sideways motor my dad Larry built. It sounds like no other 44 out there, runs pretty good too.

                              Idle Jet

I see the RTV to keep the idle screw from backing out, good idea, we used a small hole with safety wire back in the 70's never had a problem with them . Thy even passed tech. at that early time. Something like this is a must if you want to be safe. I don't know about now but there was a reason to have them then and I think today also.
