  • V-Drive Fluid?

Does seem to be an exactly appropriate forum on this site for this question so hope this spot is OK. I have a 1962 Rayson craft with 327 Chevy. We drained the fluid out of the V-Drive a couple years ago, it was the original fluid I believe or may have been replaced in the 80s who knows. There are no real markings on the V-Drive otherwise I would tell the type. The drive is also circa 1962-1963. What do people recommend for fluid to put back in it. Is there a modern type that is used in most if not all performance V-Drives or should I use something different because of it's age?

    Thanks

I know in a Casale Case we use Lubrication Engineers #9920, simply the best. Rex Marine stocks it @22.00/qt., pricey but worth it. Casale is now recommending Lubrication Eng. #6205, a lesser grade but also very good. Check out the LE website for more info http://www.lelubricants.com/

I would definately give Bergeron Engineering a call to get a solid recommendation at http://bergeronmarineaz.com/

Ask for Phil, Brian, or Phil Jr as the shop is family run for over 30 years. They know their S***!

Thanks a lot. I am familiar with Rex Marine. We consulted with them about purchasing parts for our other 1962 Rayson Craft SK boat. I'll give them a call.

I have another fluid question. The boat has a "The Capitol" transmission in it. Transmission is again, from the early 1960s. We took the fluid out, it looked good but because we are doing a full fluid change we thought it would be a good idea.

Thoughts on fluid type for this transmission? Really appreciate it
