  • She's finally done! After many many hours of sanding (including the bottom fiberglass resin) priming and painting, completely rebuilding the 102 and getting the lower unit back from Tom (who did a great job) its ready to hit the water. Numbers and letters will be on soon and Saturday is Race Day! here are some pictures. Oh and I got my new safety gear in from SRP last week as well as a new helmet.

**ADD** Also Will have the carb cover repainted tomorrow.

      Silas,
The boat looks good. Will your Dad be filming the first race?
      Good luck and be safe!

            • Pugh DSH

Here is the Dave Scott powered Pugh DSH we completed early last winter. We finished the engine break-in last week and look forward to getting her trimmed out and ready to run in the next couple of days.

Great looking rig, what was the Pugh used for before you turned into a DSH rig. I also like your trailer set up, with the cost of gas these days you will blow by all those 20-30' foot enclosed trailers while they sit in the gas station filling up blow the horn when pass by the pump

                  Dan:

Thanks for the kind comments. The Pugh was a 350 pro boat that we modified for DSH. Gary builds really solid high quality boats so it was a relatively easy project. We purchased it from Mark Gryskiewich (from an ad on this site). I’m told that Hellsten also drove the boat to the 350 cc National Championship.

We have to spend some time with it but, early on, it is very nice to drive.

You nailed it with regard to our thinking about the trailer. We wanted a small fuel-efficient trailer that we could also use as a “float off” at conventional launch ramps when we go testing. It has an engine rack on the front and tows perfectly well. Hey, at $4:00/gallon and climbing it seemed like a reasonable approach.

                  • Great set up, if and when I ever return to racing this will be my set up quick and easy no fuss just hook up and have fun were any mods done to the Pugh so far as lift - air traps etc.

Good looking rig. Glad to see another DSH in Michigan, the class needs them with all the races in MI scheduled. You can run DSH, DMH and FEH for boat time and to make the trip worth it some times. Should you ever require help with anything feel free to contact me, I am in Battle Creek, and a fellow DSH driver lives minutes away from me in Marshall.

We chose not to modify the bottom of the boat. The overall dimensions of the hull actually fit the class quite well.

Interestingly, I understand from Dave Scott that there is another hull set up like this that is successfully running in the class.

Clearly we’ll learn a lot more as we chase the set-up.

Thanks for the positive complement. That means a lot coming from someone with your level of boat building experience.

We are really pleased with the warm reception we’ve received in the stock outboard community. I’m sure I’ll be taking you up on your offer for support.
