Where to start...
...I met Jerry Davids a few years ago in DePue at the PRO Nationals. If I remember correctly, Jerry and either Dave Bennett or Billy Allen tried to help me set up my racecraft before testing. I went about 1/2 a lap and spun out. I came in, and Jerry said, "I guess you won't want us working on your stuff anymore, will you?" How was I to know that about 4 years later, that "crazy man that set up my boat that one time and made me flip" would have impacted my life so much.
Jerry is probably the most caring and helpful (and honost ) person I've ever met. He has done so much for me and everybody I know, and expects nothing in return. He has a enormous heart that can hold so much and is always open. He's always willing to give advice and is supportive in every way possible. He is an inspiration to me, and I know he's an inspiration to anyone that has ever seen or talked to him.
If it weren't for Mr. Davids, things would be a lot different in my life as well as in the lives of my family. I wouldn't have won the nationals and high point last year, nor would I have won nearly as many races as I have; I wouldn't have someone to put me straight(besides my parents ); I wouldn't have a lot of the strength and push that I now have; and it might be right in a lot of ways to say that I might not be here if it wasn't for Jerry.
Jerry, you are an amazing person and have become a huge part of my life. I appreciate everything you do for me, and look forward to spending more time with you. Thanks for everything. You deserve this more than anyone I know. Have fun up in Detroit!!
My wife already got all the gooshy stuff out of the way, so I'll just sum it up. Driving for you is about the best in the business, when I won you said "maybe you should put your purse down and drive the d$mn boat!" And when I'd jump you'd say "did you have fun jumpin' the gun Sally?" What an inspirational guy, there for ya when you needed anything and if you weren't around it was because you were already helping someone else. I hope to be half as great of a guy as you are and I look foward to many more years being on the team. The Bud Light in my right hand is raised up to you my friend. Congrats on '07, here's to '08! Congatulations Jerry. We had the pleasure of pitting next to the Davids during the Dayton Nationals. Their whole camp was always there to help, and we needed a BUNCH that week. I agree with everyone else, class act all the way.
Many years ago as a "J" kid from Central N.Y. I always looked up to Jerry. To this day we often converse about more than just racing. If any one deserves a trip to "Detroit Rock City" it is the entire Davids Gang! Congrats!
Greg has a bottle of "Water" raised & I have a "Miller High Life" in the air to you!
Jerry,
How proud we are of your honor, but more to the point how proud you must be of your daughter. She is absolutely great in voice singing the National Anthem for us at Zanesville, still sends chills. And my goodness the love she showed to you and all of us who know you. What a great testemet to you in raising a loving daughter.
I remember the rain and the wind blowing like crazy at ZV and here comes this "thing" , helmet on, shield down, life jacket still on, and a yellow coat over the "the Things" head. Up pops the shield, and lo and behold there is Jerry under all that yellow and throws me the rain jacket and thinking of someone else always.
Thanks Jerry, I have loved knowing you and Jillian and your great heart. Congrats my friend, it is great to announce a true HOC!!!!!!!
