  • polishing OMC lower unit...

I've stripped down my lower unit... but there are still large patches of 'marks' in it/on it... this is not what it is, but my best description would be faded areas? A discolourization of the metal? Aside from removing material... how do I remove these patches... they cover most of the foot.

Is this common? Or am I just confusing people? haha.

I sandblasted mine then went over it with a scuffy pad.
after we run in salt water a few times all it takes is a little bit of coarse compound to make it pretty again. just my $.02

You're allowed to polish the OMC lower unit?

Cool. I recall the early days when an inspector with a stick up his A busted on my son over what the inspector claimed was a "paint mismatch" on the lower unit.

I believe you've been allowed to do this since the Merc A came out. Since it had a polished OMC lower unit installed when new.
