  • Kingston, NH Race

Wow!. Picture perfect conditions for three days of racing over the weekend. Overwhelming support from the community and plans are in place for a 2nd Annual Kingston Fall Classic.

Although the course was thought to be small, it was very similiar if not larger than the Taunton Race site. Sandy beach off of a pine tree pit area with only two cottages on the pond. One of the cottages had a boat dock adjacent to our starting float and they cheered as each driver crossed the finish line. The Referee sent program books over to them on Sunday so that they knew who they were cheering for!! (Yes, a program book the had a Driver roster!)

Three new members made their debut's and one former member rejoined us after a 15 year retirement. It was also great to see the lengendary Stan Fitts in attendance for both days.

Our pit area was adjacent ot a church which prohibited us from starting prior to 12:30 pm but we ran a tight nine class program which allowed us to do our two days on Saturday and be off of the water by 3:45pm Sunday.

Many thanks to all of the South Shore Outboard Association membership for their attendance and support of this race. For those who could not make it, you missed a good one. Make yours plans for September 23 - 24, 2008.

This race was great. A ton of thanks needs to go to Steve Noury who did a ton of work to make this event run as well as it did. The pit area was great, providing shade from the sun that beat down on us all week-end. The course was as good as we could have asked for. The community support was great, and as a racer there was everything I could ask for (food, toilets, garbage disposal). The Kingston Police and Fire Departments also contributed in a manner that is usually unheard of for us stock and mod guys.
Like Steve said, the best way to describe the race this week-end was "wow"

Classes run: 20SSH, 25SSH, CSH, DSH, OSY400, BMH, CMH, CSR, J Hydro.

Conflict: Sensitive issue for which we have tried to remain neutral. This race was initiated in 2006, promoted in the Region 1 News and listed on the APBA schedule of events. It was initially schedule for July. However, when Region 3 had the opportunity to run a summer Millville we moved it to the open date in September. APBA had no races scheduled for that weekend at that time. Once the sponsorship package was set there was no deviating.

Yes it was unfortunate that Whitney Point was then scheduled for the same date but rarely do we receive a full sponsorship package with Police, Fire and Community support. In view of the fact that we rarely have any out of Region boats attend our races in Northern New England anyway, we concluded that we had to proceed with what was best for our small community of racers.

Certainly a topic that needs to be addressed this upcoming season. At the conclusion of the Fall Region 1 meeting, I will personally make sure that the Outboard powers to be are in contact with Regions 2 & 3 to coordinate our schedules for mutual support in 2008. See you at Millville.

                great race

Steve ,thanks for all your hard work in seting up a great weekend. The sight was perfect and the classes were run off without a hitch.( Other than my run in with a police car and Jack geting to the line early a couple times ). And I got home by 7:30 pm--on the same day I left the pits !!! SHAWN

                  Steve-

I gotta say that race was awesome. The pond was the perfect size for our course, the pits were nice and shady, there was a good number of local spectators (who weren't afraid to ask questions and talk boat racing), and it didn't seem like anyone had a long drive.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into it!

                    Conflicting Dates

While it was awkward to have our neighboring Regions have races on the same date, it was great to see the support that came out for the weeekend. Glad to hear the New Hampshire race was such a success.

Whitney Point dates are available with little negotiation because it is a very heavily regulated lake. And we did not promote the date the way we should have.

Whitney Point still drew 74 boats and had good fields...too bad for the wind on Sunday. We definitely need to work on supporting the activity happening in Region 1.

Congratulations on the success of your event..looking forward to this race next year.

I heard it was just a great race in a great spot. Good competition and excellent weather. What more could one want. Thanks Steve and we will try to make it next year, I guess we don't need to bring equipment to win a few heats!, just our props!

Conflicting dates may not always be a bad thing. Support for local racing is the only way we are going to grow. For the first time in many years, two local races in neighboring regions on the east coast were successful on the same weekend. Had this race not happened your three new members may not have raced, and with a long off-season coming up you may have lost them for the future. Now hopefully, they will be psyched and all out for next year. WELCOME BACK BOB! See you in Millville.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

It's RACING, not just another boat ride!
