Laydown hydro

Hi there all. I'm from Australia and race a 429cc motor in a open hull class I would like to run somthing new and diferent to the current monos here. I would like to build a Laydown hydro for this class can any one suggest what plans would suit and who / were to buy them from as there is nothing like the photo I have supplied here (this photo is just one that I found that I would like to build its not me). Can any one point me in the right direction?

Boat designs vary a great deal depending on geographical location. Typical hydroplane designs here in the US work best in calm water and wide sweeping turns. Typical Euopean designs work better in choppy water with sharp narrow turns. I'm not familiar at all with the type of racing you will be expecting in your area. Can you give a little information about the type of racing you see down there?
There is also a link here on this website. In the upper left corner box called: "Hulls and Hardare list." There you can pull up a list of US builders/designers. You may choose to contact a builder directly for some information.

Thank you, based on what you just mentiond I would need to lean towards the European style designs (narrow courses and somtimes bumpy) Could you reconmend a builder that has designs to suit our conditions or point me into the right direction? I sent an e-mail to MJR three days ago and just waiting for a responce.

Yes a good read thank you. As I have only built my race boats with female moulds useing Vac infusion tecneque to suck out excess resin for lightness and strength. But looking at the wooden boats made on you side of the pond the quality is fantastic and somthing I would love to do build a wooden race boat.

the boat in the picture is a GSC, built in Italy. The builder, Ciccio, (at least that is what we call him!) may work you out a deal. Try the Formula Series website (user name GSC I think) and look him up. His English is pretty good.

Other European huills that also work well are the Lucas (built by Oliver Lucas), Kala (built in Estonia) and a recent new hull is the Typhoon(?) built by Brett Duncan - a South African living in the UK.

Another good source of info would be Mike Ward (Yamato UK) @ www.yamato.ndo.co.uk .
