  • Patrick Gleason: A Sales Pitch, Please

In the past I've dismissed the idea of wearing safety socks because my thinking was "you can't protect every inch of your body" and “what are the chances?”. My thinking changed this weekend at Loch Haven for four reasons:

    1. Johnny W. was bitten by his own prop in AXSH. He’s okay, but the cut on his foot would probably have been less severe if he was wearing safety socks.

    2. My 16 year old son was racing with Johnny in AXSH at the time.

    3. My 10 year old son raced JH for the first time this weekend.

    4. All three of us wear regular socks anyway to prevent the sand from grinding the skin of our feet away from going in and out of the water all day.

    What sizes are available?

    What’s the cost?

    How do I order?

Obviously I could have contacted you privately via email. So this posting is half personal interest and half public service announcement.

Wise move. You should look at investing in the socks as well as a pair of US Army combat boots. My prop cut me at Ocoee. The prop cut through the kevlar like butter. The prop did not cut through my combat boots. The cuts began after the combat boot stopped. Significant damage was prevented to my ankle by the combat boot. Significant damage was done to the front of my shin bone, skin and muscle where only one layer of kevlar was present.
