Most bang for my buck?

I'm an old guy who has been away from this fabulous sport for 30 years, although my dad and I built a 45SS for the ignagural season, that was only about 20 something years ago. I'm getting the bug to get back to it and contemplating either a 302 stock or 125pro hydro set-up. My question is....where's my money best spent? I want a reliable motor, after racing the KG4 and Swanson Hot Rod I'm not really looking to spend my weekends trying to keep things together. I live in Florida and with my schedule, extensive travel to out of state racing is somewhat prohibited. So what ever class I end up in, it will have to give me a few weekends of racing here in Florida. Any input will be greatly appreciated. BTW, I will be starting from scratch.

Welcome back to racing! In Florida you can run any one of the classes you mentioned 20SSH or CSH with the 302, or their is the 125 although they didn't run much on the club level this past year. They did however have 2 title series race back in the spring within the state. SST45 is also alive and could use another person! We are always glad to have new (or returning) racers here in region 5. There are some boats for sale in our region. We are working hard to build up the 20SSH, CSH and CSR classes and they don't require a lot of maintance. As Bob and Howie said your best bet is CSH/OSY/20SSH or CSR. If you are lught weight ASH/AXSH. There are a lot of 125H in Florida, but they almost exclusively travel and run USTS.

Your best bet/least expensive is to buy Joel Brown's CSH Tecraft boat and a 302. This boat is highly competitive and priced about right for a proven winner.
