This is really a non-issue. The SORC has already approved a plan that removes the 302 from the class in a couple of years. The 302 should not be the dominant motor in 20ssH. It should be dominant in CSH. This will kill the 20 class, and turn it into C2, just like we have with 25ssR. That would be a joke. Especially when we can preserve the 302s for the long term future of our C class(because they won't be around forever either), and have Sidewinder provide us with a long term motor for the 20/B class. We support both suppliers, and both classes are gaurunteed not to change for a long time.

You guys must not have seen the 305-R blow through the field around the outside the 2nd heat. If you don't think that Peeters and Lewis had 2-3 on the field you're crazy. Those dudes are Pater fast.Ryan Runne

Dave - if you'd seen elims on Wednesday, you'd feel different. After elims, it looked like the 302s were going to get eaten for lunch. Clark, Jennings, and Allen all have fast 80s - definately faster than we see out here unless Jimi turns his loose. What was nice last week is that it wasn't just about pure speed - that comes in September at Lawrence. I'd like to see a few more races between fast 302s and 80s before I'd give the 302s an edge, let alone 2-3 mph.
Ryan - stick by your first post buddy And get yourself home already!Mike Johnson

Yes a 302 won the first heat on the water but was the first boat a crossed the line in a heat with 8 gun jumpers. On a course as small as this one was any of the boats that got out front at the start would have stayed there. There was no one that had 2 to 3 MPH on the whole field this year. As for seeing 66 mph on a GPS testing, GPS's are all relative to location I know of people that have seen that with there 80 and at a different lake with the same stuff seen no more then 63 mph. I will say the 302's ran very well and I am glad to see people running them since here in the mid west they are not run in 20SSH. Congratulations to John for his win in 20SSH.
I have the lap time sheets to back this info up!!!Last edited by mercguy; 08-14-2007, 07:36 PM.Daren

Nope, I say we slow them down. Clearly the 302's had 2/3 on everyone. It was stated on HR so it must be true.
Tate did not run 20 so go check your sheets a little closer.
But I would agree that 4-P and 25-M were the fastest 20's, so it seemed in the elims. It's too bad the 25-M jumped but like Mark's son I'm blaming Grandpa Butch.
I'm not serious about slowing the 302 down.
What we should do is slow Gregory Lyons down in everything he races. He's my favorite to win 3 in one year. The young man is one hell of a driver. Not to mention he's a nice person."Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"

i should have taken the fact that lewis and perman were in clean water!! but they were crossing the finish line when the next closest 80 was in back chutte in heat 1 of final and it only get's worse on bigger course..they are fast!!! but i will leave it alone and hope the new sidewinder help's this class...and have a one motor class...at slower than 66 mph in 20 for the new guy's and young kid's....

Dave, I think you have an excellent point on the speed issue. Need to have some speed difference between A, 15ss, B, and C. More of an issue in hydro than runabout, as was made clear by being able to see all four exisiting classes on the water last week.Mike Johnson

I just wanted to add to all of this, congratulations to all you fast 302 guys. I have been running the 302 and 102 in 20ssH for a few years now. I never ran anything like that! Those guys busted their asses to get that fast. Like I said though, the issue was decided long before this nationals.
Mike, It's gonna be a few more days. I was told I can't leave Rumson until Friday. I'll be home some time Sunday or Monday!Ryan Runne

time will tell
First off congrats to John "Guido" Peeters and Mike Perman for taking the 20SSH and CSH National Championships with their 302 powered rigs. Both of you did what you had to do to win: started well, stayed smart and drove hard and clearly deserved you championships.
My point of view from the course (both elims and finals). As for any the differences between the 80 and 302, I don't think it's that significant. In my elim, I came out of turn 2 in 3rd and by the end of the race was half a straight away in front of the 2nd place boat. Same with Jennings/Clark elimination heat.
If you look at the pictures from the finals (Camerboy - Saturday) you will clearly see that Lewis and Perman were the first 2 across the line and Lewis is out of the picture. Therefore, they had clean water to stretch their leads. In Heat 2 of the finals I passed Lewis on the way to the turn. Not sure if he had cracked it, but I made up about 2 boat lengths on that run to the turn.
Hopefully, some more of the "R" boats make the trip east next year for Whitney Point and in '09 when MHRA hosts the nationals and we can do it again and see how what the outcome will be.
Mark
