There will be high speed action on the water when Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club hosts the World Hydroplane Championships on Oulton Broad, Suffolk over the weekend of July 14 -15th 2007. Competitors are expected from many parts of the world, with the winner being crowned World OSY 400 Champion. Drivers from the local club have been very successful in this class, which uses the Stock Yamato engine from Japan, with Kevin Turner, originally from Blundeston, twice taking the crown in 1993 and 1994. Lowestoft’s Craig Speller has since won the title on four occasions, the last time being in 2003. Turner moved on to the Formula 500 class competing regularly in Europe, and Speller took a year out in 2006, but is expected to make a comeback in a strong challenge for the title again on his home water.
