I understand . but looking back 20 or 30 years at nascar and how far it has come . It is all marketing now. It was racing with what you had30 years ago! Times are changed now. Maybe not for the better.

Nascar
But it is a good comparison in the respect that most "local" drivers never get a chance to test or practice except at a race. BMX, Motocross, Most other racing sports you can find places to test or practice much easyer. Even if its the back 40. New stock car racers, BMX, Motocross, can hit races within an hour and run many times a year. Our local tracks run every weekend. In face one runs every Friday night, one saturday. So two races per weekend with out any long drive. This is part of what feeds nascar with drivers and fans. With out all the small tracks Nascar would be our unlimiteds with better promotion and coverage.

Hey right now there is a story about Smokey Yunick and what he did. As for pushing the rule book. One story said NASCAR took out the fuel cell to inspect it and then he drove it back to his pits. This is some good stuff from a very smart guy. he was won of the best .

Thats right,no one has taken the time to put kneeldown boat racing on the front page, and most people when your looking for sponsership cock there heads and give you that funny look.My brother and I have been out of mod racing for 25 years and are now starting our come back and theres lots of changes, except the promotion of outboard racing.
Sorry to say but today if it doesn't bring the bucks in,it ain't hitt'n the front page. When we first started it was racing on the mitey mississippi almost every race, and we've gotten away from that because mostly the damage rivers can inflick on wooden high speed boats. But it brings excitement and that is what you need to bring in the crowds and when you bring in the crowds you bring in the bucks and when you bring in the bucks you've got the front page.
Our local racing club has long since dissappeared but the private clubs along the river here in Quincy are still here and willing to put up some money for boat racing but theres no takers because its on the river.Just 12 miles north of Quincy is a small town called Meyer,Illinois and it sits next to Lock and Dam 20 and they use to hold the pro championships there for many years and I've seen pics of some of these boats 6 feet off the water due to the wave action.Exciting huh.Its just my opinion but I think some of the excitement has left our sport we need to draw crowds.
I'm currently trying to put the spark back into the sport in my area, but ladys and gents,I can't do it alone.I know everyones busy this time of year but I've contacted two APBA clubs already about the Quincy area and have heard very little back. With the support from the right club,Quincy can hold 3 races a year,2 on somewhat closed and protected courses and 1 on the river. How you ask,the people in this town support the sport enough to make it worth the while for the sponsers.Sorry to say though only one of these races would be for big money. The Convention and Visitors Bureal used to put up $40,000 a year for drag boats here, can you imagine what part of that would do for a sport like ours.I love the sport thats why were getting back in and I will do what I can to make it grow but again,it takes more than just me and more than a handful of trailers. The sponsers are out there, but it takes everyone to make it work.If I upset anyone with my remarks I apologize, but its to further our wonderful sport into the eyes of the public and gain new members.Daniel Lee Crabtree
