John, Mercury is a different situation. They at different times openly did not support racing and other times they did. Mercury was not consistent in there support. Yamato and the vendors that supply Yamato parts have been consistent to bring to market parts and motors.
I have been involved in several commercial products that were from new suppliers and have myself brought to market new products. Some of the products have tremendous market acceptance at trade shows and I could sell 1,000s of then but the manufacturer could not consistently supply a quality product. I am not suggesting that new Hot Rods will not be available or their quality will be inferior. I am indicating that we need to have proof by actual experience with production motors before so many eggs are put in the Hot Rod basket.
On the other hand, Yamato and the vendors that supply Yamato motors and parts have a history of quality products being available. To take classes away from such a supplier in my mind is not a good idea. Taking classes away from good suppliers sends the wrong message. I am not forgetting the other suppliers that are trying to make quality products - they should also be provided a level playing field.
I do believe the committee is biased. I get that indication from reading Hydroracer and from speaking with others in the racing community.
