Used our new starter at Rochelle, did a great job of starting our engines. Got ours from Kart O Rama. Is theirs the same as yours Larry? Did not get ours in time to get the battery charged properly. But it did last most of the day.

If it is the same starter, I would say you do have a battery issue. You might want to have them warranty it and send you a new battery. If you want a new kick but turn em over battery that will spin the engine with more R's than Kevins turns racing, give dad a holler. We might be able to figure out something to adapt to it for you.
Art it is the same starter but I didn't buy it from them. I may have a battery issue, I'm glad yours worked good.

When I received mine I tried it on a new built 44 Mod engine. It did the same thing as you mentioned. I purchased the charger that goes with it and after a full charge it turned it over but quickly slowed. There was so much oil in the engine from the rebuild, the compression was unreal. Once gas was put into it it fired up right away and never had a problem since. Bob N-96
I have a friend who has had trouble with his Coleman starter battery keeping a charge. The problem with sealed batteries (including Optimas) is that they can partially malfunction or entirely die, and there is no remedy except to get a new battery.
My starter has turned really strong for two years now, but it is always on the motorcycle mini-charger in my garage when not at a race site. I also never leave my starter on a metal or ground surface long without an insulating material underneath the frame.
I have had my starter spin me part way around the powerhead with a stuck piston problem the first year I owned the starter (now I always check the pulley tension to see if the motor is loaded up or unusually tight to spin... ) We zip tie the battery to the frame to keep it from moving too much in the frame.
I tore my right bicep big-time at Depue one year on a loaded-up motor when it kicked-back on me while I was rope starting it , so the starter helps me protect my arm from further injury. See if you can find a battery machine to do a load check on the battery and if it fails the specs, exchange the bad one for a replacement from your dealer.

The guys that have used the starter with good success, what amp hours and cold cranking amps did your battery have. Mine is 11 amp hour and 120 cold cranking amps.

The battery that comes with the starter is enough battery. It might just need a full charge. Also as mentioned above. A fresh motor is a lot harder for the starter to turn over.

Also, now that I have seen the condition of the threads of the nut on my 2nd VRP motor that is not broke I am a believer that the starter was the cause of my crank to break. It broke flush off with the rope pulley, and the motor that did not break, the nut threads were so wasted it would not go back on the crankshaft. Just my 2 cents so flame away.
