pro ?
The PRO guys all seem to have the same unit, an aluminum case , geared starter, with a small gel cell built right into the unit, vertical hand grips, and and option of what impact socket to use on the drive. Would seem all the PRO motors have standard flywheel nut,[tell me i am wrong ] as one seems to work for all. IE; -one of the Eldridges ran over and started a Konig for us [thank you ] at L'Wales, but when Mike Schmidt ran down to help start a Yamato mod[@Standish ME ] his socket was the wrong size. These starters are the way to go, and a ton safer.Brian Hendrick, #66 F

No Doubt
This is the way to go, Just wonder what the down side is, Ie: rounded off Nuts. I don't mind replacing them, just so I can still get a socket on to do it.
The ones I've seen look to be commercially fabricated.
My Dad might actually want to help pit again without the broken fingers ect...
Art K , don't have a web address but I'm sure a quick search will get it done.

We use a 6 point impact socket on our starter and we have never had any trouble with rounded off fly wheel nuts. Some guys have a 12 point socket and there is some visable damage to the nut, but it is not rounded off. If you use the 6 point impact there wont be any problems. Make sure its the correct size.(metric or standard)Ben

Electric Start
I use the Kart-O-Rama, dealer-supplied starter with a hardened 24mm, six-point impact (flat black finish) socket for my Yamato. Some pulley plates need to be machined out a little for the socket body to fully clear the nut or bolt hole. Several of us tried to buy starter units direct via the Internet from the starter manufacturer, but he will only sell to his established dealers. Be sure to tell the dealer that you need the optional, SHORT shaft model for starting outboard motors (go karts use a longer shaft model.)
Just remember to pre-instruct your starter guy in the pits to LIFT STRAIGHT UP when they dis-engage the unit after the motor starts (to keep it from damaging your crank nut and pulley plate top.) Mod class Mercs and Tohatsus need a different socket size. We also use the electric starter with our spark plugs removed and throttle open to fog our motors with Marvel Mystery Oil after cleaning out the engine at the end of a race.
I use a small motorcycle Battery Tender charger to keep the sealed battery charged when stored at home. Zip tie the battery to the frame for added battery mount stability. The only problem I've had with my starter is the simple ground switch sticking. Roger at Kart-O-Rama ordered me a new switch at no extra cost. Good luck.
