whats the best class for an adult like my self
that has a good stock outboard motor top to bottom smaller than the 2.0 liter and want,s to race with a 15' unlimited hydroplane type hull just use box type dementions like the big unlimiteds do and totally stock motors
and if there is not a class for a boat of this type
could there be one started and how many boats would it take to get it set as a class
the main reason i ask it,s is my thought that a hydro is safer for a beginner! to corner over a the tunnel not knocking the tunnels
    dont hate me for asking
there is not an option that i see for the average adult joe racer / builder to get started racing
with a low start up cost low maintance class
lots of guys have good stockers running around all over the place and can keep them running at a fair price
    what do you guys think
    good /bad//maybe
im thinking more boats more fan,s more driver,s more fun etc
ill see you guys at lw on sep 15th

I have run them both and I think a tunnel is much safer than a hydro.

      Hey AFR???

How you doin"? you need to have a gabfest with Will ,or John they're electric , if you know anything about it , i think they use jet starter motors or something , about 300#s of batts.
      Go for it.!!!
Nice looking hydro , but some that don't run look KOOL too.
I won't get into a go fast turn left disscussion.

Boat racing in general does not need anymore classes, every major category has 12 or more different classes to choose from so if you cant find one to suite your needs then you don't really want to go boat racing.

        Stock Outboard
        Mods
        Pro
        OPC
        Superlight Tunnels
        Inboards
        Inboard Endurance
        Unlimited
        Outboard Drags
        Offshore
        F1
        R/C Model
        Personal Watercraft

        APBA
        ODBA
        NBRA
        AOF
        USTS

The list goes on and on and there is a class of racing for just about everyone so you cant be serious.

i would think a tunnel would have a bigger learning curve over a hydro
myself with trimming up and down and on and off the gas etc
and in my case the sst classes are more maintance with the 24 volt trims, custom props ,tricket, out lowers, the cost keeps from looking at them to hard and the sst 60 is just to small for a big (fat )guy
i would spend a easy what 12/15grand on a power head for a sst 120
i dont see my door just yet
i have looked at the inboard hydros but
they seem to be all up in the north areas only (to much traveling for me)j am just a weekend racer
i did see some 5 liters on blackwater sound in the keys several years ago
and there were only a few as i recall

hey i from st louis also
          jefferson county boy

              About OPC

OPC classes do require some maintenance but not a ton. Some people do nothing at all, show up Fri afternoon or even Sat morning, charge the boat batteries and go race.

As far as SST60, I have raced the class since 1999, have set a competition record, won the North Amercian Championships, won on the Series level, won US-2 for 2 consecutive years all that at 6'4 260 pounds.

$14000 and that exact rig can be yours

SST-120 powerheads, I called an engine builder and he can build a complete powerhead with all the "tricks" for under $5000 bolt it on and go race.

The current boat configuration can only be used as a DRAG boat or pleasure boat. There honestly is no room for it at the races we conduct here in Florida. Also the clubs don't really have time in the day to have someone go run a few hot laps just for the fun of it. We have a set amount of rescue boats designated to be on the course and that is all they will allow.

Hope this helps and remember to be mindful of the other categorys / classes that are reacing now, people are very touchy about it when you start talking down about the stuff they race.
