  • Sid-Craft or Hedlund A/B Hydros

I am a R/C powerboat builder looking for scale three-view outline drawings of any kind to help me get going on drawing them myself so I can build and race them in my classes.

Any help would be appreciated, Thank You.

I am working on simple sketches of both hoping someone could be able to add dimensions for me, but not complete yet. I am hoping someone has already lofted one or has built a copy.

The Hedlund was a derivative of Hal Kellys 'Jupiter' and those plans are still available from Clarkcraft in NY.
Google it to find the web site. I would think RC scale models of full size hydros would work best if they were taken from designs that had a lot of lift, ie; 'packed a lot of air'. The Jupiter/Hedlund did that, as well as Kelly's Ben Hur design. Post a pic if u do one

I found the Kelly page. The Ben Hur cabover looks pretty wild. R/C's do need more air. The closer you get to a flat bottom with it they just tend to flip more. Most our hydros have air tunnels all the way back to the transom to get the tails up to prop ride better, or they are the older thunderboat design with the narrow tails and ride more like an outrigger type.

Right now I'm working with an older designed kit called a Drag N' Fly in three different size classes, which I am building as inboards now.

This is a retired version which was set up for outboard which is 38" long and has a 9" tunnel.

I didn't know Hedlund was still producing boats but have a contact number now and I'll be giving them a call to see if there's anything they can pass along in their archives there.

From what I remember of them they do have the deeper sponsons, and I liked the front cowl shape and the cockpit sides on them. They also seemed to have a wider transom height than the Sid's. This helps surfaces from "disappearing" when you go to scale them down and helps mounting the drive hardware.
