Meals on Wheels Charity Race Series… 2006 Recap/Introduction

Just a little run down on what's been happening for 2006 and 2007.

Our race series takes part in Ontario and NY. We’ve had races in PA also, but man power has limited that (as much as I'd like... I can't go to every race). Overall it has been a great success thus far.

The Series in 2006 had 9 days of racing with 40 racers taking part. The Series is run in conjunction with regular CBF and/or APBA races. Drivers who want to be a part of the MOW Series pay a $30 fee to score one class, or a $40 fee to score all of their classes (scored separately).

In 2006 we raised $2862 in cash and prizes, and as always 50% of all cash raised, goes to the Meals on Wheels Charity! In this case $801. In the three years we’ve officially run the Series we’ve raised $7933 in cash and prizes and given $2595 to the Meals on Wheels charity.

We had our awards dinner on March 10th in Pickering, Ontario together with the Toronto Outboard Racing Club awards dinner. All had a great time and cash and prizes were handed out to 20th position. First place received a #1 plate (similar to motorcycle racing), a beautiful Bulova watch valued at $300 engraved with their name and “2006 MOW Series Champion” from VanValkenburg & Son Jewellers and a check for $200.

Each year we've run the series the winner hasn't been made clear until the last day of racing. Often there are still 4-5 drivers that could win it on the last day.

Here are the top 10 results for 2006:

    Also a reminder!!!

For 2007 you do not need a passport to drive over the border into Canada from the USA. It's only needed for air travel.

BUT! In 2008 YOU WILL! So if you don't plan on getting a passport, this is you last chance to come up have a GREAT time with the Canadians!!

Several of our races are a real blast! I'll push Waterford, Ontario June 23-24as it's the race I work on...

    - APBA and CBF sanctioned
    - Free Pushboat Races for kids (and kids at heart) on Saturday after the races... (we have a few loaner boats... or email for simple plans to make one in a day or two with your kid). Trophies for top 3 kids, and the boat judged best in show!
    - Free entertainment Saturday night! 4 piece band "Bolt Upright"
    - Tri-oval racing!!
    - Hosted at a private dedicated lake! No wakes to worry about! Camping on site!
    - Snack stand food on site!
    - Yet to be determined how we will award it... we have a Storm Launcher r/c hydroplane to hand out! Donated by SpinMaster http://www.spinmaster.com/commStream...layer.jsp?1503

Hope to see you at one of our races!

I can also only have good things to say about the races put on in Canada. Lots of classes are run, current and vintage, and these races are accompanied with a great group of racers. Besides Waterforf being a race to put on your calendars, Long Sault is also a first class event. I'm sure that TORC and the Ottawa Valley club will put on some great racing at Carleton Place, Tweed, possibly Beaver Lake and Sydenham too. So come join us for some great racing and great times at some great sites for a great cause.

        August 4 & 5

Where in the Great White North is Beaver Lake? I noticed that Tweed was absent from the schedule, is that correct?

My understanding is the cost is too high to use the beach area of Tweed again... so the race has moved to new lake just to the east... maybe 20 minutes away? Closer to the 401 I think. It has a bar beside the pits/camping area and a nice spot from what I hear.

            Hwy 41 North

            Steve,

Follow the 401 west after cornwall or 1000 islands where ever you cross the border to Hwy 41 north to Tamworth (town) Beaver Lake is on the map. Camping, Bar, Gas across the street (if it passes) LOL and a convenience store about 30 Minutes to Napanee.

Thanks guys. I did not realize that CBF membership included such precise travel service information.
Marked it on my calender. New E350 Ford Van will be busy crossing the border this summer!
