Hmm . . . not sure about that. The TV cameras and talking sportshead showed a Chevy engine while the gel explanation was going on. Could have been a Chevy car they used, but the 350 block is fairly standard so one must wonder, do the race cars use different engines? Or do they use a name brand body shell with the same basic block under the hood?

        Toyota

The ruling was for MW's Toyota engine. They changed the manifold to give them a chance to fix the situation and it showed up in the second manifold as well. Then they impounded the car and removed the fuel line and found the substance in the fuel line but not the fuel cell. The crew chief has been fired by MWR.

"Michael Waltrip's Statement: Michael Waltrip's statement regarding the NASCAR penalties handed down this evening to the #55 Michael Waltrip Racing entry: "In the past 12 months, Michael Waltrip Racing has hired more than 150 people and we currently employ more than 200. Although we have grown at an accelerated pace, it has been our mission to hire people with high moral value and character to properly represent our sponsors and our ownership. During preparations for the 2007 season and especially the 2007 Daytona 500, I specifically requested that our competition teams not disrespect NASCAR, our competitors or our sponsors by blatantly cir***venting the rules. This is not the action of an organization, a manufacturer or a sponsor. This was an independent act done without consent or authorization from me or any of my executive management team. As an owner, I realize I am ultimately held responsible for the actions of my employees. Therefore, I accept the penalties issued tonight by NASCAR. I respect NASCAR's rules, its people and the sport's integrity, which is why I am so sad and embarrassed. I am dedicated to get to the bottom of this because I will not let the independent act of an individual or individuals tarnish the incredible accomplishment my organization has made to be where we are today. I want to apologize to the other owners, who know how hard I've worked to get here in such a short period of time, NASCAR, Toyota, NAPA, all my sponsors, the drivers and especially the fans."(MWR PR)(2-14-2007)"

"Toyota issues warning to teams: Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president for competition, was emphatic this [the #55 infraction and penalty] was a team issue and not a Toyota issue. While embarrassed over the incident, Toyota officials insisted they would maintain a relationship with MWR. "This is not the way you want to enter NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series by any means," said Jim Aust, the president and CEO of Toyota Racing Development. "For this to happen to him is extremely disappointing and extremely disappointing to Toyota. ... He has certainly apologized to just about anybody that would be associated with his organization. He's beside himself with what's happened." Toyota isn't resting on an [Waltrip] apology. Company officials are expected to send a letter out to all Toyota teams next week stating Waltrip's organization has used two of the company's three strikes. The next team that crosses the line will face the loss of the manufacturer's support. Lee White, the senior vice president for TRD, said TRD worked with NASCAR throughout the process. "I can honestly tell you from an ethics standpoint and integrity, along with character and honesty, those things are paramount in our company," he said. "We hold ourselves to a high standard and we hold our teams to high standards. We hope we've picked the right ones."(ESPN.com)
AND: Jim Aust, vice president or Toyota Racing Development, was asked if this was his worst nightmare. "I would say that's pretty close to accurate," Aust said. "This is a week we had looked forward to for many years. To begin this way certainly takes some of the limelight and happiness out of it." It also doesn't help the Toyota guys win over some NASCAR followers who didn't want them here in the first place. That marketing campaign just got a lot tougher.(ESPN.com)(2-14-2007)"

                Substance

NASCAR will never tell what the substance was.

I believe that the block may the only thing that comes through the manufacture. Even the rear differentials on all the NASCAR teams/"brands" are Ford Trucks. These things are race cars, not Chevys, Fords or Toyotas.

                      Nascar engines

Each manufacturer use the own block and approved heads in Cup Racing, you may notice when a Chevy hits the wall it sometimes knocks the fuel pump off and has a brief fire , Ford pumps are on the other side of the engine, tucked in on the timing cover. Toyota got to start with a clean sheet of paper and desin a " race friendly "block from the start. The rear ends are based on a Ford design but all the components are fabricated ( eaven the housing). The origional suspension "Truck arms "were based on mid seventies Chevy trucks. The Transmissions are from 1 of 3 or 4 manufactures and are diffrent for speedway, short track and road race cars. The compitition is so close, The top 20 cars in the 500 will probibly qualify within 1/2 second of each other. I love how race teams "read " the rules.. kind of like other racers I know!!!!

Imagine an impefect world, where we get docked points and suspended for a rule infraction. Well, it might disourage cheaters, na, probably not look what NASCAR does and they still cheat. But the steaks are just a weeee bit higher

I wanted to read the 125 qualifier post, but I have the race Tivo'ing and don't wanna ruin it, please don't post results, I'm still not lookin'

Sterno? Sterno is a blend of ethanol-methanol, water and something to make it jell. A little bit in a fuel line isn't going to do much.

Jet fuel? Jet fuel is basically kerosene. I don't think a Nascar engine is designed to run on Kerosene.

Jet fuel additive? Most jet fuel additives would be a negative.
Napthalene (mothballs), anti-oxidants and anti-bacteria additives might bring a gas engine to a halt.

                              2 + 2 = 4...

for those of you who haven't figured it out yet, i work for TOYOTA.
waltrip was over last week and i hooked him up. lol...

i don't like nascar, but at least they made a quick ruling. it took the SORC 75 days. OPC took 30+ days. nascar... like a day.

watch out ford, chevy, and dodge lovers... if TOYOTA doesn't figure it out soon, i'll reccomend they put the 53M on the payroll
