  • Need Race Date Advice

We are looking at a few dates for the Wilson Race, and one of them
is the weekend of May 12th and 13th. I just realized that, that is MOTHER'S
    DAY weekend.
How would that affect attendance? I believe we have the Mod Divisionals,
and we are looking at another opportunity that could be a big draw for
    hydro drivers.
I need feedback, would Mother's Day weekend keep you from racing?
Please let me know as soon as possible so I can nail down a date.

    Thanks for your help,

    Dennis 21Z

Dennis I don't if Mothers day will hurt or not, maybe you could put it off a week. We were planning to have the SE Mod Divisionals at Jesup GA May 5-6 since you had it at Wilson Last year, we thought it was our turn to have it.

My mom won't be happy, but...

The only solid excuse for skipping a holiday is a boat race, so count me in. No conflicts here... Greg ASR & BSR

Mom's day would be a deal breaker here.

            Mother's Day Racing

Denton, MD's traditional date was Mother's Day weekend back-in-the day. So many fond memories of watching my mom sitting in the rain at Denton on Mothers' Day!! She and all the other mom's were saints!!

                No prob for me . . .

but I'm not racing, just helping out. During my decadant college years we used the long Mother's Day weekend to visit the South Carolina beachs for a few days of inebriated debauchery. Best peresent my mom got back then was NOT getting a call for bail money

Denton on Mother's Day offered a travel advantage. Meany racers had Monday off work, so they could meander home, unpack, and chill a bit before punching that time clock. AND we beat that evil beach traffic off the Eastern Shore! Same deal with Camden on Columbus Day weekend, less traffic on the homebound journey and time to unwind for those who had that Monday off.

I'll bet Columbus never gave anyone a guilt trip for going to a boat race.

                      Dayton OH used to be

On Mothers Day weekend each year. It had great attendence for the annual spring Dayton race. Was always our first race of the year. I can recall many not so fond memories of the weather that weekend in Dayton. But one thing, I think Fred Miller, did was to pass out a rose to the mom's in the pits on Sunday. Sure made them feel welcomed and special. Some times the little things make a big difference.

Not that I can attend Wilson, but I would say go for it.

Stock, MOD and J Class Southeast Divisionals

It is Region 5's turn to host the Southeast Divisionals. Would someone who attended the National Meeting, please post what club/what site was awarded the Southeast Divisionals for Stock, Mod and J Classes (remember they are 3 separate categories). It affects the people who have to submit paperwork and pay sanction fees.

Unless Region 5 had no bid, Region 4 should not have bid for this year.

                            Dennis,

As an earlier post stated, Dayton Record Runs for years ran on Mothers Day weekend. And yes, Fred Miller gave the mothers each a flower - Mary says they were carnations! Typically had great turn-outs. I spoke to John R at national meeting, asked him when the date was, and am planning to attend.

                            Regards,
                            Jeff
