  • Region 3 J's Update...

Good News!!! Thanks to the hard work of the Region 3 Ladies(Sheri Runne and Jill Glossner) and a politician who kept his word (Sen. Joseph Palaia) a Bill has been submitted to the State of New Jersey to exempt ages under 16 from the currant laws prohibiting them from racing at our races. This will once again allow J drivers to race in New Jersey.

    Good Job Ladies!!!

            Thanks Sheri and Jill

Awsome people doing a powerful deal for boat racing.
We have the same problem in Region 7, but layed low for a year back in th 90"s and we don't advertise the J class in the papers where the DNR can see.
Funny thing tho, I took the entire family through the DNR boat safety class a couple of years ago, and boy was I stupid to the rules out there. I highly recommend that parents and kids do this together to understand local laws and boat safety in general. It was a good family project!

The J and AXS classes are our future. I think I got one driver hooked for life, kinda by accident. Well she kinda hooked her self into boat racing.

Thanks to Sheri and Jill for keeping the J class going in the Northeast. A much needed boost to APBA Boat Racing!

This bill will most likely not be passed by the time Spring Millville comes around. We have to pressure the Transportation Committee Chair to have this passed by then. Otherwise, it will most likely be past sometime in June. I will be working with a Lobbyist to hurry this bill along to get it past sooner.

                      Two reasons

                      Two reasons:

                      1) I want to identify the correct bill so I can track its progress online as it makes its way through the legislative process.

                      2) I want to identify the correct bill in my letter to the New Jersey Tourism Commission requesting that they support and lobby for this bill. I have first hand knowledge that the current law keeps tourists away. My son didn't come to Millville last fall because he couldn't race.

The fact that our sport is small isn’t the point. New Jersey had huge electronic roads signs posted on its interstate highways proclaiming “State Parks and Beaches Closed” during the state’s budget crisis last July, which my son and I witnessed as we motored through NJ on our way to the SO Divisionals at Thompson, CT. NJ needs every tourist it can get. And I will politely point this out in my letter.

I will post more information on the bill at the end of the week including bill # and official name. I appreciate all the help everyone wants to give us and I am sure we will need it. I will be calling the Chairman of the committee on Thursday and will keep everyone updated. I will also list the address where letters can be sent to encourage this committee.

                        Thank you. Sheri Runne

                          Sheri & Jill,
Super job. We're all proud of you girls. The NC Runne's will send a letter to "whom ever it may concern" as NJ tourists with an interest in seeing this bill passed. Maybe other out of staters can do the same. If you don't live in NJ then you are a potential tourist. Hey, there's an up coming presidential election, any interest in you two running? I'll be your campaign manager (haha).
                          Love you, Robin

The Bill #S2392 (Create exemption to age requirement for powerboat operation conducted during authorized racing)

You can mail letters to: Senator Nicholas Sacco, Transportation Chairman, 9060 Palisade Ave., N. Bergen, NJ 07047.

I sent a letter which he has received per his secretary and she was going to bring this to his attention. I will check in with her this week to see if there has been a next step made.
