  • Surveyed courses?

Can anyone help shed some light on the costs involved and process of surveying a course for records? And once done does is it cheaper the next year?

    Thanks

Andrew, I have gone through the process with the Oroville Calif race course. I suggest you request the Race Courses and Records Booklet from APBAHQ. It tells you what needs to be done. All records courses needs to be approved by Lee Eason Chief Surveyor for APBA. They are good for ten years then need to be reapproved. The 3/4 mile layout on file with APBA MUST be used for that size course. All others 1 mile, 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 is open for any fit on the body of water. The cost???? depends on the Surveyor. Russ Dodge from Region 10 did Oroville for us.

              Courses

              Andrew-

Bill Boyes summed it up pretty well. If this is a new site (for records) a surveyor needs to develop the map and supportive info per APBA's requirements. That map is sent to Lee Eason in Olympia, WA. Once the map has his approval, copies are sent to APBA. Once the control mons. are set and remain, yes, it is easier the following year to just put the buoys in. Since I am a racer, I do not charge my club.

There are people like Russ Dodge (inboard racer) who come and survey the Lake Lawrence race and charge a very little sum for the amount of time he and his wife are there. They have a great system. You must be onsite during the race to check buoys when they are hit or in need of replacement and certify the course after each day of racing to show that the buoys you placed are in the designed location.

There is a standard 3/4 mi. and mile course.

              Good Luck

              Bill

                Bill:

Since you do not charge your club, could I interest you in a free membership to NCOA?
