Region 8 is Bruce Johnson. I don't think he is going to the meeting. No one else in PRO who is in this region is going either. (From feedback of those I checked).
I was told several times that the cost was the same for
1. buying a new boat from Mike Krier
2. Buying a new 125
3. Taking wife and kids to DisneyWorld in March and racing too.
4. 5 new props
5. Travelling alone to LA for the national meeting.
I bet in most cases number 3 is the top choice.

Tom,
Goto APBA's website and look under the meetings tab. They have the results of the fall meeting elections posted their for most of the Regions. It will show who won the commissioner spot in most cases
444-B now 4-F

Maybe some day a west or east coast APBA National Meeting can be accomplished via a live web video access option for those on the opposite coast that cannot attend the meeting due to the high costs of travel. High fuel and airline ticket prices hurt national participation in most non-profit organizations, nation-wide. You would hear the same comments from "Left" coast people if the meeting were to be held in some destination on the east coast that did not have good cost-saver air fares available at the time of the meeting. Access and participation need not be just to the more wealthy folks in APBA who can afford to attend the meeting or anyone who lives right next to the meeting site.
If you are an elected catagory rep, find a way to participate in the meeting for the sake of the rest of the racing members that you agreed to support -- at the minimum, send a well-written white paper stating your positions on issues, topics of discussion, and rule changes, and then find an attending "proxy" rep to make sure your Region's or General Membership's votes and propositions count at the meeting...
