  • Gas Issue as of Dec. 31, 2006

Hey everyone, I just got done talking to a gas station owner over lunch. I was asking her about ethanol in gas and if they have it. As of right now, no, but she informed me that as of December 31, 2006 federal law requires all gas stations to have 10% ethanol in pump gas. I was wondering what APBA and the other racing groups thought about this, and how we are going to handle this issue. At the OPC nationals they required drivers to use gas that was on site. The issue with this was that it was extremely expensive. 7 dollars a gallon to be exact, which most drivers are not excited to pay or willing to pay just to run at a race. Second problem is if we allow the meters to read of the 10% what is to say that someone cannot put other additives in. Digitrons do not read for additives, just +-. I just thought I would let everyone know if they did not already.

Chris: This is not correct. Emissions standards change, but there are several ways to meet the standards and not every area of the country is subject to reformulation requirements. Ed.

      road trip

so if your area is subject to reformulated gas you better plan a road trip just to go pick up fuel.

        Good Grief

Can't someone solve the dam fuel issues ? Why should all of us be punished for the actions of a few if any that actually use fuel that has additives ?

You hear people getting tossed all the time who swear it is pump gas, nothing added......... so why in the hell is APBA not listening to the racers ? I for one am pissed this is even an issue. Change with the times, or fall extinct like the dinasours.

And oh yeah, if you think $7.00/gallon is a cure, I have a lot of equipment for sale.

I'm coming back into racing after an extended layoff. I mostly ran Pro for years and years. fuel was not a problem. In my return I will be mostly running Mod. I expect fuel will be a big problem.
