  • European boat race videos

I thought you guys would be interested in this web site, which has been put together by the German WEB-TV company

    http://www.motorbootrennen-dessau.de/Bilder/bilder.html

It features videos from a number of different races that we had in Europe this year. Lots of different classes - pro 0-250, 0-350, 0-500, OSY, and also inboards

Hope you enjoy the videos and that your german is up to scratch! If not, like me, you can just enjoy the action

Glad that you liked them Dan. I forgot to say, if anyone has any questions about the videos - venues, drivers, classes, etc just post them and I will endeavour to answer them. And that doesn't include a translation of what on earth the German commentator is saying!!!

Achtung Fahrerlager!!! - attention in the pits - is about the limit of my German

Okay, here's a question. When is Jenny Bilton coming over to the US to race OSY?

You will have to ask her that yourself Doug!!! But as the World OSY in 2007 is at her home race circuit, I think she'll be devoting a lot of time getting ready for that

              ??? Inboards ????

              Hi Corin,

Awesome videos. What were those boats that looked about as large as a 500 boat, encapsulated, but with no pipes on the back? Inboards?

I'm curious as to the size of the engines, the type of engines, and their speeds.

              Thanks,

              R-19

PS-- I agree with Doug, more pictures of Jenny.

The race circuit in Brandenburg is on a rowing complex and by all accounts they have invested hundeds of thousands of Euros in updating the complex. Big screen tv coverage of the races, top notch facilities, it's a great venue

Yep, they are inboards - HR1000 (the HR stands for Historic Racing). They actually now have a European series of races like our pro outboard classes, so the series is called Formula R1000.

Here's an extract from a German website which gives you some more info about them....

"In the world of speed boat racing, this class has become a very strong influence in Eastern Europe and in Central England. In the year 2000, there were for instance eleven (11) racers from Germany to venture the waters of the HR-1000 class. In Order to keep this class of racing from dying out, it has been put into what was called since the early nineties the Historical Class HR-1000. This eliminates the expensive upgrades in engines and boat design, for instance special safety cockpits. From 2002 this class is called Formula R 1000. Only naturally aspirated reciprocating carburetted boat, motorcycle or motor car engines older than 10 years, are permitted. The drive line between engine and propeller to be basically straight (no Z drives). A gearbox may be attached at the motor however it is forbidden to change the gears while racing (rule 518.01 UIM). A favorite engine is still like before the 2-stroke Tact Wartburg engine. Being used in this type of boat is also Yamaha, Honda and Rotax engines. The engines can go up to 100 to 130 horsepower and reach speeds up to 140 km per hrs. (85 miles per hrs.) Reinhard Gerbert reached 157 km/h in Lorch at 24th June 2001 - measured with GPS. The official World Record in category Formula-R1000 holds since October 2003 Lars Katzorke from Wolfsburg/Germany. He reached in Windermere (GB) 144.20 km/h

That's right John, Billy and Ralph raced at the O-125 Worlds in Auronzo di Cadore, high up in the Italian Dolomite mountains. Probably the most beautiful race venue in Europe (may be even the World!) - see pic

I have to say that I've yet to discover a video of the race. There were no German drivers racing that weekend in hydros, so this probably explains why their tv people were not there. I will keep my eyes open for you. In the meantime, I wonder if Laurie (Allen) has any pics she'd like to post of the race - Laurie!!!??
