  • Promotion, Always Promotion

Seems "SILLY SEASON" is back. Everyone do something. Rather than re hash the same old Parody issues ,lets do something more productive. How about some new blood? I've been developing a "system" for promotion. Set up your spare/ used / Unused rig on a flat test trailer. Park in a "good " location. Have a for sale sign on it even if you have absolutely no intention of selling that particular rig. You can always stere them on to a rig that will be good for them. I found at fleet farm, An INFO TUBE. I filled it with race propaganda. Chain-up securely and wait for the Phone calls. Take names # and Addresses Steer them to Websites. Give rides. EXPOSEURE. I've sold first test rig to the owner of a chain of Marina's. He lives in a town 100 miles away, where , We raced in the early 90"s. He also offered to put rigs out in front of his stores.
Can you Imagine the affect if all 400 of us did this? You can Imagine if every town had a rig for sale? A "BILLBOARD ON EVERY CORNER"

This is far and away the most important thing we can do RIGHT NOW. TODAY> This fall All winter (down south) And maybe a co_ORDINATED effort this spring. I've re-cruited 3 new drivers this season Alone. ONE MAN. In a DEAD region . THINK ABOUT THIS AND WHAT IS REALLY WHAT THE SPORT NEEDS. I don't think dealing with class issues is The most IMPORTANT Item on the adgenda Quite yet. we need the dudes.

    Promotion

I know some of the new Guy's Now if we can get Mike F. to get his Yamoto on a boat we will have a decent start of a CSH class in Region 8.

Thanks for putting your money up for the boats and motors on these for sale rigs.

    Promotion is what we need.

Steve: That is exactly what I intend to do with the flyer. It'll have a Hot Rod sitting on it with a for sale sign as a complete rig at Burlington. Joe Z sold a complete 25SSH at Pleasant Prairie to a new guy. Ed.

Unsung hero's like you are what is keeping the sport of boatracing alive. That shouldn't be the only avenue for growing our sport. We need leadership, a budget that supports growth and a cookie cutter way that any region can follow that works to grow the sport. A lot of local clubs need direction. A proven method. That is the least our APBA can provide for us. Do something R. Steven!

                Mike-
I'm glad we do not have frozen mellons up here as you agree with what Steve has done. Actually, teeb has been quite sucessfull with the help of others. And the only reason I make mention of that is because without the help, we would be sitting on one persons back porch swing talking about days gone bye. Without helping each other and looking outside our tight circle, we need help.

That could be in the form or new members, getting old equiptment out of storage, or recruiting old members, old members getting equiptment out of storage, etc. You get the point. We don't grow with what we have. Nor have we grown anywhere near considerably enough to make it count as realistic growth in the past_____years. Yes you try to fill in that blank.

What we have done is slow down the rate of attrition. Let's be real here. And that has been minimally at best.

But I can not put blame on one person or even a group without pointing the finger at ourselves. Nor do I expect to point one person out. But let's fix this now, before it's too late.

Have I done my part? I don't know. Maybe we should what our part is.....

                P.S.
I can say that MIKE BARRETT has made me think with a broader spectrum, even if I can't spell. Thanks MIKE!!!

That plan we all must do

                  Teeb here,
I've developed a rough template that everyone can do NOW. For minor cost
                  Requires 1 RIG.
                  Trailer.
                  Chain and Lock
                  For sale signs
INFO TUBE/Boat racing propaganda. / Business cards. up coming races, meetings ect...
Good Location. Easy to swing on in and take a look.
Take Photos. Make up For sale signs to place in autoparts stores, Boat shops, ect
we can all set a rig for sale on the side of the highway for a week. Even If we have no intention of selling it, We can always find something, for the serious buyer.
                  Take names Numbers, follow through.
Mine spot sees 100,000 cars a day. Can you Imagine the impact if All 1000 of us SO MOD PRO OPC id this on say the week of NOV 7 ? Than again on May 1?
I've got less than $100.00 in supplies in my effort here. Could be much less.

Good spots are Motorcycle shops, Near highschools Busy highways. Main streets. ect...
The bike guy's are a potential NEW market..

This could be a Grass roots campaign.. FYI... I sold demo rig last week. The new buyer lives 100 miles away and remembers us racing in his town 20 years ago.
He also offerd to help sell race boats in front of his stores.

Master plans are needed but in the mean while let's all give this a try this fall.
I'ts been tested and it WORKS Small billboards everywhere. PASSIVE MARKETING
Growth is still ONE person at a time.
                  Steve
