  • HARM J Hydro Project - Update

Some Graduation Ceremonies come with caps and gowns; others come with Helmets and Cut Suits.

At last weekend’s Lawrence Lake Records Regatta, we succeeded in getting four of our 5 participants in the HARM J Hydro Project for 2006 on the water and racing. Jared Martin made it on Saturday with his J Hydro; Ashley Raney made an appearance borrowing Kay Brewer’s J/A Hydro, and newcomers Shane Thompson and DJ Haskins ran both days in their first weekend of racing.

After discovering some eleventh-hour issues with their borrowed motor, Shane and stepdad/crew chief David Williams made the decision to park their beautiful new “Nitrogen Too” hull and borrow Dylan Lewis’ s rig for the weekend, which got them a first-pull-of-the-motor start and a good, consistent run each time out. Brad and DJ Haskins ran their new boat, with its first time on the water being in their first competitive heat. Both drivers started, finished, and had a ball in the process.

SO successful was the weekend that it was decided that the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum (HARM) will do the project again for the 2007 season. 5 more boats will be built and raced, and we will carry the lessons learned in the inaugural season of the project forward to make 2007 an even better year.

If you have a kid, or know of a kid in the greater Seattle area that would like to be a part of this great project, call the museum at 206 764-9453 for more information. And if you’re from out of the area and would like to help, call to see how you can be a part of the future of boat racing.
