Thanks MHRA for a fun weekend, I had a great time. Just curious though, why did the CSH's run an alternate course on Saturday? I did not hear that explained at the driver's meeting

As a first timer at Grass Lake, I would like to tell everyone, it was awesome! The race committee did a great job, and the Grass Shack was just as fun, if not better, then everyone made it out to be!

Ed Hearn: Don't I still owe you something for those raffle tickets you bought?

Dean: I'm holding up my end of the bargain!

Dad: You would be proud of me, I closed down not one, but TWO bars on Saturday night. I had to represent the East Coast!

        Can't wait till next year!!!

The CSH debacle was caused by my pulling off of the race course. My motor was cutting out so when I got close to the pits at the end of lap one, I raised my hand for just a couple of seconds so everyone knew that I was slowing down and getting out of the way and then I made my exit to the pits. Sorry guys.

From the desk of Kevin Ladd

                  06 Grass Lake report-
The Annual Wild Ones Regatta at Grass Lake, MI had its normal hard
fought battles on the course and great parties in the evening. Lil? Missy?s
Grass Shack was packed with racers new and old on Friday night and the
Center Three Horse Club hosted a great pork loin dinner with all the
trimmings Saturday night. But the highlight of the weekend for many
was the presence of John Broge and the Toner Tool Team to watch young JR
Broge run his first race in JH. The 67-33 raffle for John generated over
$1350 in less than 2 days. More than ½ the racers badged their crafts with a small 67's in support of the effort. It was a truly invigorating
feeling to hand over a wad of cash to Lynn Broge ? even if it only offsets a
small portion of the costs they are incurring. Fittingly, Bill Toner won the
drawing so 100% of the proceeds went to the Broge family. Not only was
John in great spirits, but he looked great in his new sporty set of
wheels. We struggled briefly with rain and uncharacteristic NE winds late
Saturday. The scoring crew did a good job despite the conditions.
Vicki Sidor took on her first MHRA race as chief scorer and Brian Trolian as
Race [day] Director. Both did it like they have been for years.
Again our J & AX classes were some of the biggest of the weekend. The
138 entries Saturday were fairly evenly distributed ? several classes had
full 10 or 11 boat fields. Although the marathon only had 17 entries, it
still provided entertainment for many. Let?s get our diehard runabout
numbers up for the future as we don?t want this Grass Lake tradition to die.
After Sunday morning?s marathon we had 4 heats of 20SSH (featuring more
first time racers - Burt Jones and Neal Marsh) and AXH. We didn?t get
to these 2 classes Saturday as winds increased late in the day. So they
had to run back-to-back-to-back-to-back Sunday morning. And AXH was the class
randomly drawn FOR THE MONEY ? in which young Adam Low bested local
Steven McCourtie for the $250 and proceeded to donate a portion to the 67
cause. The other $250 for the largest class of the weekend was in JH.
Although McCourtie, Thomas Allen, and Jonathon Brewster were all front runners in contention, Low again came out on top as he best managed the clock.

                  Thank you to:
                  - Dean Sutherland for pushing the 67-33 raffle so well (while
                  entertaining/announcing)
                  - Ed Harrington, the Duffields, Kelly Ladd, Shannon Hoover, etc. for
                  hours
                  on the judges stand
                  - Vic Brinkman for arranging the Saturday night dinner & party
                  - Capt. America for the furthest traveled award ? but more for
                  delivering
                  Stacy and Valerie
                  - H&H Rescue team for another great performance (Ryan Burdick took quit
a spill in CSH and all precautions were made with care ? Ryan is fine,
                  but sore.)
                  - And all the traditional core MHRA members that make this race come
                  off
                  so well !!

Official results to be posted later. See you next weekend in Big
                  Rapids-

Yes, Grass Lake has had some rather cool race days, however MHRA has ran the last 4 years (both days completed in each year) prior to 2006 under sunny skies with temps in the 70s to near 90. So, let's not let an occasional, cool later summer day put a damper on the some great recent years.

By the way, the official high Sunday was a balmy 58 deg. F and with a stiff NE wind it made it feel just a bit cooler.

Great race again and great to see so many 'ex-racers' come out for the racing and evening festivies.

Let's also give a hand to Mike Ross for Asst. Refereeing, Jack Brewster for filling in while Dean and Mike raced (in the same set), Dennis Swanson for bringing and operating his boat in the turns all weekend and Dylan Justice for handling the J prop distribution for the second consecutive time at MHRA races this year (nice photos as well Dylan!, let's see some more).
