      New Hot Rod...

I'll start by saying thank you to Ed and Ron for choosing me as a test dummy, very flattering, considering my BSR competitors! What a motor! With all do respect for Ed and Ron, I (as well as the onlookers) didn't expect a performing motor out of the box. Sure, it might start up, but will it get on plane? will it stall out? will it stay running? how fast? how hot? All questions I had before the first pull of the rope. How wrong we were! I looked at Ed before roping it for the first time and said "picking me up?" "Nope, let's see what she'll do..." The man was right! No hot rod in my trailer will start in the water, and this was the maiden trek for this one! Impressive... As for getting on plane, the only comparison I can make is to that of a properly tuned 125cc dirt bike. It felt as if there was a wicked powerband that hit and screamed my Racecraft (little sponser plug, hey Ponch!) on plane. Yet another checkmark for the NEW hot rod! Once up, the motor ran between a great running 'A' and a 'B' speed wise. Not bad for a shot from the hip Ed! We ran the thing hotter and hotter and leaner and leaner and it never skipped a beat, although I did run it out of fuel at one point! Completely my fault... The factory has the exact numbers and I'll let Ed post those. All in all, solid, great performing motor out of the box. No burnt pistons, no snapped cranks, and some respectable numbers posted. The speeds and RPM's will only get better as Ed tweaks and tunes that carb just right, I have no doubt the thing will be as fast as our B's in no time. Shoot, it already starts in the water and gets on plane like a rocket, heck of an accomplishment for the first day of testing. So congrats Ed and Ron, you have your first order for a powerhead.

                  Dana...

94 MPH, 27,000 RPM... Barely kept it on the water! And it's not even opened up yet! I'll leave it up to Ed to post the specifics.

                      Update

I just received the recalibrated carburetor from the distributor as well as a lighter set of reeds from boyesen...
The engine will be back in the test tank tomorrow!

                        Latest news

The carb and reed changes really woke this thing up... I can't give you any data at this time because I can't keep the water in the test tank long enough to get it... The engine has picked up RPM at WOT with improved running at mid range and much better acceleration...
Next update after a boat ride..
