Our thoughts are with the Davis family, and the entire boat racing community. There are no words that can express how deeply saddened we all are at this tragic time.

Wishing everyone out there a safe trip home from DePue, Wakefield or wherever boat racing takes you.

      Good bye for now Nick

I had a very similar conversation Friday with Nick to the one that Bill K. shared above. Nick just loved to drive that laydown 500 and was willing to skip his "real" 500 class to run the sprint race. He had the boat dialed-in and looked good testing. The accident happened in an instant and he was gone. Nick touched many in the PRO boat racing community and always in a positive manner so far as I could tell. I had a long talk with another driver following the accident and the sad outcome. At the end of the day we concluded, there would be no easy way for our "family" to have lost Nick. He was simply a good guy in every respect.

I trailed Nick by 15 boat lengths going into the the first turn. I lay awake all night Friday looking for an answer or a blame. There simply is no blame, just a terribly unfortunate racing accident. The answer is kept somewhere else not readily visible to our earth bound eyes.

I know that I will look for Nick a the next race and then have to remind myself that he is already watching from somewhere else. Godspeed to his wonderful family and friends.
