Wax is only applied to a ski base after it's been textured (roughed up), then it's scraped off to leave most of it in the pores of the plastic ski base. In the old days the trick was to polish it glass smooth, then surface tension came into the mix. Now after the wax is scraped off a ski the trick is to use a plastic or brass brush to rough it up to prevent surface tension from slowing the ski down. I can't see how wax would help a epoxy'd piece wood, now a silicone spray...
I tried this back in 1977 when I was in Syracuse NY, and breaking LOOSE is the result. Something about the water miniscus effect and wax/sprays really goof up the water flow. Couldn't get the crap off fast enough!!
My boats hold close to 50 APBA or UIM current records as far as I know none of the them were set with any wax on the bottom. Use it in the deck to make the boat look good.
Don't use wax, it will break you loose in a straight away.
You can use Graphite powder mixed in with the West epoxy per the directions on the can. It reduces friction.
System Three also has the Graphite Powder. It is similar to the race glazes you see advertised. It also creates the neceassary UV barrier and water barrier needed to seal Epoxy.
