  • Environmental impact reports?

There was some talk of reports done in the past by APBA and I think the parks department at Franklin said a few things regarding this all in the positive for still water lakes.

Anyone have copies or links to such articles/reports/interviews/stats?

Going to try and get a new race site and would like to make a nice presentation.

    Thanks.

Andrew, we have that stuff at the head office, we had to go through all that last year for a race at Venise-En-Quebec. Give her a call and she can help you out.

      possitive efects

This should be public information #1 on race forums.
I read an article where water quality, oxygen content and other things were greatly improved after a race on a lake that had no racing before.
I think it was in an AOF newsletter but haven't been able to source it since.

This thread reminds me of a meeting in the early 1970's that Stan Leavendusky Jr. and I had with a combined group (city council members and Jaycee group) in Concordia, Mo. We were proposing a combined Mod, PRO, and OPC race on the city lake which was also the local water supply. They had no idea what boat racing was about and we showed them some super 8mm footage of some recent races to give them an idea of the speeds, etc and the type of program we were proposing. Everything was going great until one of the city council members asked if there were ever any accidents that occured or possible fatalities. We told them that accidents were not unheard of but they were seldom serious and at that time it had been a number of years since a fatality had occured. He continued to question this over and over again, but never seemed to really come to the point and we got the impression that there was something he wanted an answer to but was trying to dance around what he really wanted to know. Finally we asked him straight out what the concern was. He replied somewhat sheepishly he just wanted to know how long it would take to recover the body if the worst did happen. His concern was that some unlucky boat racer might pollute the local drinking supply before the body could be recovered. We assured him that the life jacket would float the driver no matter what the consequences and he was very satisfied. We had a great race there and set the first series of straightaway records for AOF shortly after the inception of the organization, in addition to a great closed course race. Most of the drivers that attended that race were Kansas City Speedboat and St. Louis Outboard Drivers club members. If he had known the amount of beer we all consumed the evenings before the race days back then, he would have known there was no danger of transmission of any type disease as we were all very "sterile" for several days. (no pun intended)

This comes up every time I look for a new site. The facts are this: we do not discharge exhaust under the water. We raise the dissolved O2 content of the water which is good for the fish and helps keep the algae at bay. For the Pro classes, methanol evaporates from the surface pretty quickly if it spills and we use castor oil from castor beans which is very enviornmentaly friendly. By the time I get done telling them that info we are "in". No one has asked to see the data but there will be some research done this year that may become available to us. The original info was uncovered by my dad many years ago. We are not only neutral but we have a positive impact and we need to promote it.

Thanks for the input, and Bob, I emailed Lise to see what she had.

Yeah I think this kind of info should be front and centre for anyone to see use.

I'd also like to see refueling in the water equal automatic DQ. And we should be using those absorbant pads under motor/fuel tanks while in the pit area. Would go a long way towards a positive impression since many of our races are in conservation areas and city parks.
