  • 25SSR Update

The 25SSR Parity committee met tonight. Here's the latest:

    A. The Parity Committee adpoted a mission concept for the 25SSR Class:
    1. The Mercury and Hot Rod Engines should continue to be competitive in this class.
    2. The 25SSR class should NOT become only a second class for CSR drivers to race.
    3. This class should be dedicated to drivers who fit the traditional "B Class" size, between 175lbs-210lbs.
    4. If the Hot Rod 20 cu.in. engine is produced again, this should be the "engine of choice" for this class while still allowing the Mercury and restricted-Yamatos to be competitive and able to win.

    B. Rule Changes:
    1. The Yamato 102s and 302s may run a 9/16" restrictor (the current one) at 430lbs minimum weight.
    2. The Yamato 102s and 302s have the alternative of running a 1/2" restrictor at 405lbs (the current weight).
    3. The Weight for the Mercurys, Yamato 80s and Hot Rods is reduced from 405 lbs to 395 lbs.
    4. The Hot Rod engines shall run at a 1.0" height restriction.
    5. The Mercurys continue to run with NO restrictor.

The committee will also meet after the SO Winternationals to reasses these rule changes and to recommend that a special award be granted by the SO Category to the overall High Point Champion in the 25SSR class.

It sounds like a lot of effort went into this. Good job. My racing partner and I will campaign 2 "new" Merc powered 25SSR's this season. Mike Marshall, Raceboat 61-S and Bob Schmidt, 390-S

        Compromise!

I don't race the class.....but I also think this seems well thought out!

        Nice compromise.

          Good job guys!

I think that this will work for all of us. With the parity committee, if it doesn't work to be fair it can be changed. This is a good, reasonable approach that may be used in the D's too.

          Thanks for a great discussion.

                  Wow...

I'm glad to see this mistake was quickly resolved...
                  Sounds fair !!

The HR potential is the only question remaining. Ed, are you going to whip one out for the Winter Nationals? I bet if you test, you can win...
What? Anna has diaper duty plans for you instead...? So sorry...

I hope someone has one running good before the Nationals. Wouldn't want fast Eddie to sandbag and/or surprise everyone at Wakefield...

                    Inspection

So are inspectors at local races going to be asked to trust all Yamato drivers when they report which restrictor they are using...thus affecting which weight they will have to meet?

Because as we know, no one cheats.

Or will restrictors be pulled for measurement?

I applaud the efforts to achieve parity...even if the whole **** class needs to begin from SCRATCH!

Dana, you don't have to pull the restrictor to see what size it is (unless someone mucks with it). The two different Yamato restrictor plates are different colors, and there's a tab on the top of it with either "9/16" or "1/2" stamped into it. All you have to do is peek behind the spray shield.

                        Pat,

                        Thanks for the info.

Inspection should be a breeze then.

                          Now What (after Winternats)?

According to this thread 25SSR parity comittee is to revisit this issue. On a related subject, it would be nice to have a central source for these ever-changing rules. At our last race no one could remember 25 weights or ASH measurements, and it's not on the APBA site (at least not that I could find). How about it 14H, a little help for our inspectors?

ASH,AXSH is still 1 and3/8 at the very end of the propshaft the only differance now is there cant be anymore then a 1/2 inch differance at the split in the case at the point in the front. Example 1 and 3/8 at the end of the propshaft 7/8 at the split in the case at the point this is below the bottom, this is max for both measurements
Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

Bump, still waiting to hear about the parity comittee meeting after winternats. From our unofficial testing the Yamato is now way slower than the Merc, we ran the big restrictor at 322 pounds because no one could remember what we were supposed to weigh. Another 8 pounds added should have the Merc about 1.5-2 MPH faster than us, right where we were hoping to be ;(
