  • Millville Spring Race Date???

We are having the APBA race in Maine on the 19-21 of May. Hopefully the dates for Millville will allow all of us to attend both races.

Many of those that would know are at the National Convention until Sunday evening

If I remember right its usually the first weekend in May or the second one.
Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

                    graduation vs. boat race

I donated my cap & gown money to a Vietnam protest fund and went racin' with my Dad. My Mom was LESS than pleased & stayed home; only west coast race she ever missed. Never regretted that decision a moment. The degree came in the mail, and the $ went to a very good cause. Also it's way more fun to sweat in a helmet & lifejacket than a big ole black gown with a goofy hat.

                      Graduation - heh . . .

Tis true, the two reasons I did the walk was for my parents. They had put up with serious slacker behavior from me which included being tossed out of a community college twice, and after six years, three colleges in three states, I finally made it. I owed them their proud moment of watching me receive a degree. Course, had I been racing boats at the time . . .

                        Graduation AT a Boat race

                        My graduation from High school:
I told my parents that there would be too many parties and too much drinking in our small town on graduation week end, so I should go to the boat race in Alexandria, LA instead. (They bought it).
This came as no surprise to my school principal, as I had missed many a Monday and days for nationals to attend races.
What my principal did do was secretly send my cap and gown to the Race Committee and ask that there be a graduation ceremony at the driver's meeting.
During the drivers meeting I was dong what I did through all of my classes in high school-sleeping. When the Referee finally got me awake he asked me to come to the front and model some new safety gear. Instead they had me put on my cap and gown and a very nice speech was made about my future and then congratulations from all of my best friends-other racers-from around the country. I was where I should have been! It was the best graduation ever.Oh yes, and there was no partying or drinking. lol
When I graduated from my apprentiship program, 4 years of classes and bing bossed around, and learning lots I didn't need to know (just like college) and became a Journeyman Bricklayer, my parents didn't even ask me if I was going to the ceremony. they just asked me where we were going to race. I said, Moses Lake, WA. Off we went.

The way I figure it, I graduate college and I basically have weekends off for the rest of my life. By that I mean no more needing to spend all weekend doing homework or projects. Plus I plan to live near where my parents live and my boats are, so it'll be much earier to get to races.

I guess Taunton will be my first race of 2006. See ya there.
