    Dave-
I was surfing around on the hydroplane category on ebay and found somebody selling plans with your photo! I wasn't sure if you knew this was going on, so here is the link..I hope it works..

Yeah Dave, you may want to check it out. Not sure which of the 55 boat plans would be referring to yours. Seems a little strange.

      Weird !

I checked it out, I guess he can use my photo, it is public property once it is posted somewhere on the web, right ?

I have no idea who it is is Vancouver, but maybe I can get some royalities from him, and maybe Marc can since that boat was the original Roper Marc built me for FEH. One fast azz boat indeed.

I guess if it helps grow boat racing, I don't care. Someone want to bid on a CD and check it out ? I think they are $3.99 on the site.

Absolutely NOT. Photos remain the intellectual property of the person who TOOK them regardless of being posted on the web or published in a newspaper or book unless the original photographer assigns the rights to someone else or specifically says they are public domain. This is the law in the U.S. and every country that signed the Bern Convention treaty on copyright law (most countries). A picture you take of your kid is not owned by your child, but by you; same for pictures of boats racing ... a picture Phil Doerle took of me isn't my property, it is Phil's - even after he puts the album online and invites us to look at it, it remains his property unless Phil says he turns it over to public domain.

Now he's using this image, too:

Anybody know this boat? Wooden mirror holders?, gages & what motor?

Guys like this, plus Glen-L and ClarkCraft really hurt us I think. Them selling stuff is totally fine and there is a place/need for them for sure, but they should state that the racing hulls are not current or competitve designs. Or in the case of this guy on ebay not even designs included in the package.

Well, he also violates eBay policy by selling plans he has downloaded for free from other web sites. I think he even admits you can download them for free if you can find them, duh.

When this first came up, I emailed the ebay seller and told him I wanted to build the boat in the photo and asked which of the plans on his CD it was,,,,Gee, what a surprise, no answer.
