PropNut, you are absolutely correct. Great videos by Dylan and I didn't see any helmet mounted footage.
APBA has decided for safety reasons that we can't wear GoPros on our heads at a sanctioned event. Based on those videos, it's clear that we can make great videos without mounting a camera to our head. If you want to get video while testing, that's fine too. The point is that we and APBA have a lot of good things going. Let's spend more time highlighting the good and less time trying to find the bad or find reasons for not doing things. If we all work toward that, we will have a great 2018!
Excellent Excellent videos, great entertainment for my morning break. I am a hard core ice fisherman but after seeing those videos I almost wish the hard water would melt sooner than later.
Feel free to post more links to cool videos here so that others can share.
Jeff Brewster has a bunch of good videos from Hinton on YouTube and there are videos from the last Nationals at Moses Lake. I'll try to post them soon.
I've been messing around with shooting video and trying to learn video production - starting at Kittanning this year. Here's my first two efforts. One is promotional, the other is more to help put a visual to my Mychron data. The telemetry definitely helps add more interest to an otherwise fairly boring GoPro video (and it'd still be boring if it was mounted to my helmet). It takes a lot of time to produce a really good promotional video. Getting multiple angles, good filler (b-roll) material, quality sound, and having a good edit with music and graphics - something that's hard to do when you're trying to race, having to work in the patrol boat, help out, etc. Maybe it's worth paying someone to come out to a few of our bigger races and put something together? The HRL race recap videos could be an inspiration.
The NBRA race video shot at Grove, ok. Have been very helpful selling races. It was a video made by locals and we paid $1,000 for it. We have been selling races that are averaging $6000 apiece. We are able to sell races that have been Drag events because it cost twice as much to put on a drag race.
For those that attend trade shows, booths, etc or even for Racer School, I made this 360 video last year of a full race. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOBd5ljF8N8&t=312s
If you have a PS4 with the VR goggles, it's larger than life.
When it comes to boat racing and the wife, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission, and of course I spent a number of nights sleeping on the couch!
