  • Axsh/r Weights

I’m Putting In My Request That At The National Meeting, We Raise The Weights Back To The Original Weights Of Previous Years For Asxh/asxr. The New Lower Weight Has Left A Lot Of Kids Outgrowing Axs, But Not Competitive For A, Penalized. New Racers Heavy Or Over 18 Have No Place To Break Into The Sport. I Feel The Weights Should Be Brought Back To A-weights With Restrictor And All Will Be Right With The World. Lets Put It On The Agenda. Any Comments ?

Put it in writing and send it to Mr Wheeler. It then can be put on the agenda for the commision to vote on. I didn't attend the J meetings but if this is an issue then you state your reason and have it voted on.

        AXS Weights

I am 95 pounds and want to race some ax this year. I will probably have to add 25-30 pounds of weight with the rules as they are now. When I started in J two years ago I had to add 33 pounds to my runabout and 18 pounds to my hydro. I say keep the weight where it is now.

It seems to me that before this issue could be answered, the purpose of the "X" classes needs to be defined.

If it is to be a true stepping stone between J and A, then the current weight is about right. If the class is to be a 2nd place for A Stock drivers to run, then maybe the limit is too low.

Our daughter turned 12 4 days ago, and since she weighs maybe 100 pounds soaking wet, I personally feel the current weight should be left alone.

i disagree as well i race a as well as axs and i think the weight should be left where it is i weigh 120 and i still have to put a little weight in my boat for axs and in a hydro i have to add alot i like running axs because of the smaller weight limit my boat handles better with the less weight

              Weights are fine!!!!

Many, many young ladies run AXSH including my daughter who would have to add 40 pounds if the weight was raised to ASH weight. As it is my 120 pound daughter is adding 15 pounds which is manageable.

This class works well for the light driver who doesn't want the hassle of bolting in a ton of lead!! Leave the weight alone.

We Agree with Matt on this One

The AXS clasess are still a transition classes for those coming out of the J experience and the weights as they are today meet that transition. To meet the AXSH weight we have 11 pounds already bolted to the boat and about 3 pounds over dry at most sites.

We raced ASH part time last year(with the Merc) and to meet the 345 min we had to add another 25 pounds which there really isn't any good spot to mount. So sheet lead duct tape to the floor was our best option.

One only has go to the APBA web site and look under High Points and look at the J Class summaries on drivers in the the J classes and the AXS classes, the light weights far out number the bruisers. Again keep in mind "AXS is a transition opprotunity".

Just one example, Bill Hemp (bruiser) raced full time in AXS classes in 2004, part time in 2005 while racing OSY 400 as his prime class. 2006 it will be CSH and OSY 400.
Yes there will be some kids that will grow out of the AXS classes quickly, but it is still there to transition these kid to other classes.

But the AXS classes has also found a nich for those that do not/may not want to go to other classes until a later time in their racing carreer. Again, look at the drivers involved in the J and AXS classes. I would venture that the Female population will stay in the AXS classes longer than the Male population. But that to is OK, at least they have a spot where they can race, feel comfortable and continue to gain experience.

For us, ASH part time participation was to get seat time(which we all know is very valuable), to learn what that "Animal ASH Experience is Like", and to do a little testing at the same time. It work well for us.

I agree with Matt on this one! Keep the weights where they are!!

When im racin axs i will also have to add up to 40 pounds of lead. i think thats plenty enough rite there! if the weight limit goes up ne more i might have to stick wit j! lol

Keep the weights where they are. We have three J/AX drivers and they have to add weight as it is.

                            more weight?

when the heck did this happen? whatta you guys want, me to put a cast iron stove in the front of my boat? not everyone in axs is as big as George Koehler. bumping up the weight i think is probably the worst i've heard yet about AXS. we got A-stock, AXS is supposed to be lighter because of the people driving. Anyone seen Joel Kiddy before? You wanna tell butch that your bumpin up the weight? ridiculous, whose idea was this?

Seems that most agree (that have commented on here) that it is a bad idea to raise the weight. But… it was asked to be on the agenda so I would suspect it will be on the agenda. If you feel one way or the other, you had better get to the J committee members and let them know how you feel. Also might want to tell your friends that have not commented on here to send their feelings to the committee so they know how where they stand on the issue. Those members of the J Committee are: Mark Wheeler & Ernie Dawe as Co-Chairman and the rest of the committee consist of Jeff Bernard, Bill Boyes, Matt Gallagher, Sam Hamp, Howie Nichols, George Thornhill, Donny Allen.
