Congratulations to the Whidbey Island Roostertails boat racing club. You have been in existence for a long time. I'm sure you go back to the 1960's. Bob Montoya was very instrumental in its startup.

When was the first year and race?

I believe the first race was in 1970 or 1971, up in Oak harbor. The club took a big hit when we lost Heart lake, but were hanging in there.

Cool..... When did Whidbey Island Roostertails join NBRA. Is there a chance that you could have more races during the Racing Season? Could a four race series be possible?

Just within the last few weeks. NBRA officials have been great on helping WIR to get things set up. I'll be putting the details on the WIR Facebook page.

Great... Is your goal to have more races? Possibly enough to have a series like the Midwest NBRA does. Like I mentioned previously a three or four race series would be a great start.

For anyone attending the Widbey Island Roostertails’ NBRA race in Washington next weekend: I posted this to the club’s Facebook page. Might be useful to some folks if they are wanting some more seat time on the weekend or just to clarify a few things with our classes. 🙂 Feel free to share to participants as needed.

Noticed that y’all are looking at running A Runabout, A Hydro, B Runabout, C Stock Hydro, C Modified Hydro, C Runabout, and D Hydro. If some of you are looking for a little more seat time.. there are a few more class options that could be added to your rigs if you’re running certain engines. (Remember that with the exception of C Stock Hydro and C Modified Hydro (and Modified 25 Hydro) there is no Stock or Modified class distinctions as nearly all NBRA classes have both legal stock and modified engines within them. You combine the Stock and Modified engine options from the rule book and that gives you one class. C Stock Hydro is slightly type-o’d in the rule book as it’s listed as just “C” under the Stock engines list and C Modified Hydro is slightly type-o’d as well as it’s listed as just “C” under the modified engines list. This issue should be getting addressed at the National Meeting this year. But these are the only two that are not combined. Just clarifying as sometimes it can be confusing. Haha. )

Some notes regarding the planned classes for next weekend that some of you may not know. Hope it helps to add some more racing to your weekend if wanted. 🙂

1.) Anyone racing a stock Yamato 80 in A Hydro... is also a legal B Hydro.

2.) Anyone racing the stock Yamato 80 in A Runabout... is also a legal B Runabout AND C Runabout.

3.) Anyone racing B Runabout... is also a legal C Runabout. (All B Runabouts are legal C Runabouts)

4.) Anyone racing C Stock Hydro... is also a legal C Modified Hydro AND Modified 25 Hydro.

5.) Anyone racing a modified Yamato 102, 202, 302, or 321 in C Modified Hydro... is also a legal Modified 25 Hydro.

6.) Anyone racing the stock Mercury or Mariner 44XS in D Hydro... is also a legal E Hydro.

7.) Anyone racing the stock Tohatsu 50 in D Hydro... is also a legal Super E Hydro.”

Our goal in NBRA is to have eight races. This race would be a race that would be counted for insurance purposes in the 2017 series. Points achieved will be counted for 2018. We would welcome more races than eight and ten races would help our treasure. We will have to raise our dues for 2018 to cover new expenses regarding a umbrella insurance policy. Most of us like tow money to help travel and sign up cost, however it is not a determining factor on weather we race or not. APBA Stock and Mod.racing do not have tow money and they are able to put on races. I admit we do travel a bit more in the south central than some. The future of stock racing is tied to solving the 321 cooling problem.

Sorry, the issue is NOT getting the 321 to cool- that's easy! The problem is the SORC has not approved anything that works. Several commissioners will vote against fixing the problem because the don't want to race against the 302's or 321's that cools under all conditions. Overheating Is an epidemic that needs to be treated!

I agree.........The COOL TOOL is the most simple answer.

How’d it go up that way this past weekend?

All in all pretty good. Saturday the wind kicked up so we ran all the runabout heats. Sunday the weather was better and it was all hydros all the time!
There are a few bugs we need to work out for next year, but for the most part everyone had a good time.
