John Schubert – March 1969 Lakeland, Florida, New World 500cc Hydroplane,
5 mile Competition record of 82.42 MPH.
Lakeland, Florida, March 1969 New World Record, 700cc Hydroplane
5 mile competition record of 84.91 MPH. APBA and UIM record.
John was also the APBA 500cc National Champion.
    Dick O'Dea

John, was the 500 the early 4cyl VC Konig,
    4 carb, or 2 carb ?
Many would like to hear the 500 was a 'looper',
but likely not by that time ?
I never heard of Dick doing a looper.

Brian, Dick worked on Janie Smith's Looper, even cut off the needle valve so that Ralph couldn't change the adjustment!! Maybe some other folk's Loopers as well.

Dave, he is talking about Konigs, not Quincy Loopers.

Brian, if my recollection is correct, both the 500 & 700 were 2 carbs. WE also used the round tin can exhaust, no expansion chambers & cooled our fuel with a dragster fuel cooler using dry ice.

BTW they both had O'Dea manufactured heads, not Konig.

That was my very first race and I remember John had rotary valve Konigs to set the C & D records but Bobby Hering used Quincy loopers to set the A & B records the same weekend.
