  • Kingston 2016 - Up Dates

OK, here a few updates for this upcoming race.

    1) Schedule - We will post a tentative schedule this weekend. Note, we need more feedback as to drivers who are coming to this event and their classes. Please reply to the roll call started on the original thread. Generally, we will run most Mod classes on July 2 and 3. We have heard the request to run 500 Mod H on the weekend.

    2) A lot of the bore and stroke PRO classes will likely race on Friday. We are trying to reasonably accommodate those who may wish to travel to another event over the weekend.

    3) 850 Mod Hydroplane has been added to the schedule as a non-championship event.

    4) Trailers - We will have race committee members on-site late on the 28th and early 29th. Please be prepared to be most cooperative with trailer parking. Please be prepared to move your tow vehicle to nearby parking lots once unloaded. Like last year, we are going to have a bunch of trailers. We will park in a manner that maximizes space utility. Certain spaces will be reserved for race committee members (especially our inspectors) to minimize their brain damage. If you have not been here before, bring a dolly.

Finally, a lot of effort goes into making an event like this a success, so please treat your race committee with consideration!! We look forward to seeing everyone.

Buddy and I were in Kingston this morning. The City is working diligently to prepare for their big July 4th week. They have made some very nice enhancements to the pavilion area (adding bathrooms). We are excited to see several improvements from last year and appreciate the city's efforts and cooperation. The CVRA equipment trailer and a safety boat are in place along with the CVRA "kicker" boat.

Let me suggest that consider adding Copeland's of Kingston to your dining list!! All 3 meals served each day, except dinner Saturday. Copelands' is located on Martin Street in town. They are ready to welcome you to Kingston. Blueberries are in the pancakes, a sure sign of a quality eatery!!!

Another new eatery since last year is the Smokehouse Bar and Grill about 1/4 mile from the pits west on Race Street. Good food and refreshing beverages...

            One more non-race related update:

On the other thread, Big E's was listed as the source of 93 octane 100% gas. They are still the source however, their sign now reads "TJ Fuel". The pumps are still labeled as Big E's but the TJ Fuel sign is easier to see from the road. The station still comes up as "Big E's" on a google search.

              Brian and all,

Yes, JR is on the sanction and will be run if we have enough. I hope very much that we have enough. Over the past couple of years, the local fans have shown good interest in the Junior classes. We have put a local young man in one boat to race and would have had another last year had the weather cooperated a little better.

All classes are scheduled for 3 heats of racing. Last year, some of the larger classes asked to only run 2 heats (to keep time on the engines down) and that was fine as well. And last year, some weather delays resulted in 2 heats instead of 3. For now, the plan is 3 heats per class.

OK, so we do have changes to the tentative schedule that include the change of day for a couple of classes. We added JR and needed to make adjustments for some teams running multiple classes in a flight. There is still a chance of one more PRO class being added should enough enter 500cc runabout.

All, some drivers cannot arrive until Friday morning or later. Please pre-register with Joyce per directions on circular. Also, please let the race committee know in advance that you arriving late and please see registration and referee when you arrive. This will be most helpful as review the schedule for each day.

All, following Sunday's racing we will need to clear the pit area. No worries, we have several hours to tear down and put away equipment. The city wishes to begin setting up for the fireworks show on July 4th. If you are staying the night of July 3rd, there are parking lots to move trailers to over-night. These are close to the pit area. The City wishes to begin set-up for the 4th festivities first thing July 4th. We will have plenty of time to put away CVRA's equipment, race boats and complete inspection. Some post race-BS time may need to slide to a little later!!!!

We encourage you to spend another day in Kingston and enjoy a fantastic fireworks show!!!

Also, we could use some help moving a safety boat to Hinton following the race, is anyone heading back East has an open trailer ball. This is about 4.5 hour drive.

I hope for a successful regatta. As I said before, just too bad there is another race on the same weekend. It is taxing the drivers that love boar racing.

Thank you to all who have pre-registered. This is such a tremendous help to me. I have been able to set up the scoring programs, enter drivers, print the entry forms and will have them at the race site. You will be able to pre-enter (jlg258@hotmail.com) thru Tuesday evening. Jerry, Chance and I will begin traveling to Kingston early Wed. morning. We are excited to be going back to Kingston again this year!!!

We had a great day of testing and three days of racing. I will post results soon. Thank you to all that stayed yesterday and contributed to the teardown and packing of equipment trailer. The CVRA club trailer is already in Hinton, ready for the Stock and Mod nationals in August. The City of Kingston welcomed the race teams once again and we appreciate the support of the Park Department and the many sponsors.
