  • SORC proposed rule changes 2016 national meeting

Hi racers 1st I want to say that I am not the smartest person when it comes to looking things up on the internet, I have no doubt a J racer could show me things on my smart phone that I have no idea how to work.
That being said I have spent the best part of the last two weeks trying to find the SORC rule change agenda set for the national meeting that will start on the 20th of this month. I have checked the A.P.B.A. social site, Stock outboard Facebook page, my local clubs web site and F.B. page as well as other clubs around the country for this information to no avail.
I did however see that the Inboard commission has their proposed rule changes posted on the A.P.B.A. site since 12-29-2015 for all the members to see with plenty of time for the racers and clubs to get with their respected commissioners for discussion on the proposed changes Boy, talk about transparency that's great and I did not see any comments from the "peanut gallery" so to speak I guess they just call their commissioners.
Again, I'm sure its just me and maybe one you could point me in the right direction to find this information as there are only 7 days until the meeting starts and I would like to talk with my commissioners about any proposals that might pertain to me and my club members.

    Thanks,
    Carl Lewis

Call APBA and get Jeff Brewsters (Stock Chairman) e-mail and phone number and ask him to put your issue on the agenda and/or contact your friendly Stock Outboard Commissioner from your area. That info is also available from the home office. The APBA employees at the home office are always ready to help. Call em. 586-773-9700. M-F 9am-5pm

      Matt, Thanks for your response.
It is not so much that I am looking to put something on the agenda as I am LOOKING for the rule changes that have been proposed. I tried my local commissioner a few mins ago but he was busy.
I will call the home office tomorrow and see if that works, sure hope they don't get calls from hundreds of members looking for the same thing. seems to me it would be a lot easier for Chairman Brewster or any of the SORC commission to post this someplace though .........but we would not want 20 pages of bashing going on like the OMC/Sidewinder A issues like in the past

Often times the 'agenda' is not finalized until just up to the National Meeting hence i believe it is tough for the Chairman to put it out in a public forum. As a former SORC Commissioner i remember getting the agenda presented in written form at the meeting.

Isn't that hard to keep everyone informed. Get it posted and add things as they come up. There is a format you can copy and just cut and paste anything new. Me and Eddie Hearn made sure it was out an updated it daily during the meeting. Made it like you were there. All of Stock Outboard appreciated it.

Thank you Mr. Mike Ross for speaking up, yes I remember you doing this if memory servers me right it was at the Seattle meeting few years ago.
I still don't get why this agenda ( after 24 hours) that no commissioner has not spoke up on this( on any forum) and at least put me somewhere between the curb and the bus. I know that you all have jobs, family and other thing to do in your life and don't read H.R or the mother ship social web site often, but you have been elected to this position and I think your members would like to know what's going on, and Matt as a member I really don't think it is my job to have to call APBA home office to get this information but thanks for the suggestion, and I did put my e-mail address out there figuring someone would say something.

So as the old grumpy guy I ask: A. Poliakoff, S.Clark, E.Runne, J Runne, H.Nichols, T.Johnston, M.Kurtz, D.Allen, R.Magnusen, M.Yarno, S.Wilde, D.Hale, (that's your SORC commissioners ) could you cut and paste any proposals for the stock membership to see here or on the APBA web site?

By the way 20SSH racers ( there are 107 of you) I did hear something about making the sidewinder the motor of choice, I could be wrong, like I said its just rumblings but I thought you should be informed, you might want to call your commissioner .

I was a member of a professional organization a few years ago. Agendas as per the bylaws had to be finalized and posted 14 days prior to a meeting where any formal action was to be taken. Additional agenda items could be added at the start of the meeting with a vote of the membership. Maybe we need a change.

Darn MrLou.. you spelled my name correctly.. and thx for thinking about me. I'm back on the Stock Commision (R1) so I'll see what i can do to sow some more seeds of hate an dissension in my attempts to insert sanity into dilemmas. I certainly agree that we elect commissioners to carry the inputs of the members forward and to keep 'constituents' informed. Never before have we had a tool to do so like the internet, and more specifically HR.

Let's hope this is just a rumor. I thought per last years minutes from the SORC that the official motor of choice was the Yamato!! Perhaps you heard wrong and the rumor was to 'remove' the Sidewinder from the class???? Just saying.

It is unusual that the agenda hasn't been posted yet! Guess it's a secret society now?

Darin, Thank you for chiming in I did speak with Matt and Ron before I started this thread and as you say it's simple, well you must have forgotten the chat we had last Sat. that I am holed up at home in a wheelchair with my foot up in the air and un able to drive, and I would not expect my wife to drive 2 hours each way for 2 pieces of paper but that's my problem not yours so its not quite that simple.

All I have asked on this thread is for the SORC to post the proposed rule changes that could affect members of S.O. maybe since you had them at the SOA/BOD meeting you could have posted them for our members on our clubs F.B. page instead of explaining to me what I already knew.

Any way I'm done with this, no doubt I have pissed some people off, I have done what I feel is right for the members of S.O. but to no avail.I can only hope that maybe the SORC will come up with something to get the proposals in some type of forum and be more and more transparent in the future.

In the words of Tyler Alexander McLaren F1 guru : its not that life is to short it is death is to long, best to get on with things.

The agenda is still being finalized. The commissioners typically receive it at the National Meeting in Stock Outboard. I'm sure once it is done Chairman Brewster will post it. New agenda items have been sent in as recently as today so I know for a fact he is still working on it.

There is no secret society in Stock.....far from it. Jeff gets a lot of rule change proposals....has has to shift thru them and decide which items merit attention from the comm. He has put items of interest on quick topic for comm. to discuss and vote on as to whether it should be included for consideration at the national meeting. I think it's a good idea. We only have so much time to discuss things in Chicago. I like Carl's idea of having things in place very early.....small rule changes can have a big affect later on. However....there would have to be a rule in place along the lines of anything to be discussed at national meeting has to be turned into comm. by Nov 1 or something along those lines. Just a few random thoughts.

That is a perfect example of a rue change proposal that needs to be thought out and understand what else it impacts. Some regions don't have their region meetings until Nov 10 per our bylaws. We don't even have our commissions all set by Nov 1st to have an agenda.

That is not saying the suggestion is good or bad, just pointing out, how one suggestion has other impacts.

The national meeting is tomorrow and as a stock driver I am concerned about not knowing what will be proposed. I also am concerned that the nobody denied sidewinder proposal that mrlou40 pointed out. As I said before any information from region 10 would be greatly appreciated.

                      - Good idea, there should be a timeline to put proposals in so they can then be posted. Or even have it finalized and posted 14 days prior to a meeting - as krazy karl stated PRO does. Is it too late to put a proposals in?

To answer your question Carl, I think the answer is NO. No one is going to post the agenda until its final and on the tables for the meeting. All he & others for that matter are just looking to see what on the agenda not if everything is there.. just the rough draft would do.

When Ed Hearn and I ran the meeting the proposals where made at least 1 week in advance. I sent them to Ed for review. We posted the agenda well before the meeting started and updated it daily so members knew what passed and could call there commissioners at the meeting if they felt more input was needed. As we all know things get passed here by a majority rule system. I think it should be out for review before as a courtesy to the members. I'm not sure why it's not posted it seems unfair to the members. Hope to see what happened on day one.
