I want to start a thread about racers who are complete racers, doing all phases of racing function. Guys who build their own boats, motors and props. My nomination is Tom Smith, who famously built a hydro in his living room. Yes, he is single, no one to move him in the garage.

Our Region 4/5 is full of these Jack of all trades, Jerry Davids, Steve Dunn, Chris Fabbro, and a shout out to Cliff Johnson who does it all, and I think he is Eric Vanovers personal trainer as well! How do I know, well I have spent money with all of them, except for the personal trainer which I probably needed most of all!!! Seriously, all of these guys and more are the reason our sport is still going, they give of their time and expertise freely(almost freely). I thank them all in advance for whatever I may need in the future!

Herb............not sure any of the above qualify as the 'total package' since they don't make their own props. I am thinking RON FRANCE is the only do it all racer. Boats, Props and Engines all done in house by Ron. Bobby Austin may also fall into this elite class.Last edited by Matt Dagostino; 01-13-2016, 09:00 PM.

I'll nominate my pops, Wayne Peeters; Props, Boats, Motors, Lower Units - he builds it. Up until his cancer battles, he raced, and won quite a bit. Last race he was in, he won the 45 Nationals. I sure hope I don't have to race against him ever again. Here's to you Dad.

The reason I brought this subject up is we really have many who have multiple skills and most of the rest of us are dependent on their creative skills. I have had George, Steve and Jerry build motors for us. Cliff has build most of all our mod. Parts. Tom builds some winning boats. Who else?

Any one who have spent time around Ron realize what a creative thinker he is especially his props. But I was most interested in his boats and driving style.

I'm not sure of all the details.  The Anderson's can verify, but Henri Signoraki in Poland last year won 175cc European Championship and was 2nd or 3rd in the 125cc World Championship with a boat, motor and prop that he handmade from scratch.  All against the factory VRP's and GRM's.  That was impressive!! I think that he also drove the boat!!

Though no longer racing Harry Pinner made his his boats and sold them as well, made propellers and worked on his engines. He was a great help to me, thank you. Below is a pic from 2008 at Ocoee Fla"Keep Move'n" life is catching up!

This list is truely the best of the best list. I , like Herb have had the privilege of these icons of our sport, take their time and efforts to help myself and my boys in our racing program. Tom Smith, Jerry Davids, George Stilwill all have helped immeasurably , Dave Bennett is the most detail orientated, perfectionist I have met in the sport, with a complete and total understanding of all facets of what it takes to run out front. Tim Kurcz is another complete racer, being an absolute master of power. I live about 5 miles from Harry Pinner, the times spent, and stories from Harry have been awesome. All of these men have shared their passion for the sport of boatracing with me, and have all gone out of their way, spent time and effort to try to help get a new participant up to speed. This is unheard of in most forms of competition. We should all be as kind and helpful to ALL of our racing competitors as they are.
