  • A stock hydro and runabout

I may be opening a can of worms here but......Johnnie is hitting 14 next year and I would love to have him run Ash and ASR but I don't want to stick him out there with no chance of winning. Unless you have a sidewinder you are toast in A classes, but trying to find one is akin to finding a hens tooth. There are a TON of good OMCs available at very reasonable prices, and with the omc he could also run a couple other classes. I know there are a few other dads who are stuck in the same place. At 14 do you want to spend the $$$$ on going into sidewinders or just go OMC and get slaughtered while bridging the gap to larger classes (like the 302). I wonder why a separate class (15ss) isn't established to keep the A classes competitive and more affordable ? I have noticed the boat count in drop the past couple years as people avoid running the sidewinder and I listen to people say the same thing. I am in no way talking down on the sidewinder, just wondering if it belongs in a smaller stock class......

We have an local class for OMC motors only no sidewinders. No APBA points, most racers still race ash and omc. Their are some competitive omc's in our region. My brother races a sidewinder in ash. This past week he had 3 firsts , 2 seconds and a forth all boats in the class had omc's except my brother. Was 3 days of racing

I thought there was a mod class you could run the stock omc A in? Or is that not an option?

200ccMR and 200ccMH, no need to do any modifications, you can run a stock motor in Mod.

The problem with the mod class . The guys who started the OMC class was afraid that a racer would convert their motor into a mod. They did not want to covert their motors. I know they do not have to but by letting a true motor in the class , they would be in the same position as if they were racing against a sidewinder.

I believe we need the OMC as an official APBA class not just a local class. But this was voted against at the national meetings.I believe their are a lot of competitive omc's out their but to compete at the top spot you need a sidewinder. Not everyone can afford one. To attract new racers we need an omc class that can buy equipment at a reasonable price.

perhaps an 15 ssh class very similar to 302 SSH - use props made by 1 provider -drawn for each race. good class for Younger drivers or drivers wanting a slower class the 15 OMC in stock configuration would be the legal motor 13 + age limit . Drivers with a OMC or MERC could still run ASH with the sidewinder if wanted.

I'm completely in support of a 15SSH class. This would be a perfect place for all the OMCs out there, and allow kids who enter this sport a little later, the ability to race both competitively and economically. Obviously there will come a time when the OMCs will completely phase out, but that's still many years away. Let's run 'em in the mean time!!

The new size resctricor has really helped boost the OMC appeal in the J classes.
