MHRA is trying something new this year in its "Chase to Place" series. Instead of using the traditional APBA points system we are using a weighted points system. For the "Chase to Place" you receive ABPA points, based on position plus 20 points for every entry you beat (including your own entry). For example, a four boat race winner would receive 400 + 4*20 = 480 and a twelve boat winner would receive 400 + 12*20 = 640. This system should reward the winners of large boat classes a little more, but not eliminate the chances for the drivers in the 4 boat classes. The picture below shows both points systems for comparison. The data is after our first race, Race for Kaos - Constantine, MI. Just thought people might find it interesting.

I did very similar in the MOW Race Series I ran back in 2008-2009-2010. 10 points were added to the score per boat in the class. Worked very well in my case and I think a systems is needed to do something like that. Hope yours works out and gains momentum. It's great fun seeing people being able to compete against one another across classes.Fralick Racing

We picked 20 points because that is how many places APBA gives points towards. We took 400, total possible and divided it by the total that APBA gives points value for (20) and came up with 20 per entry 400/20=20 per entry. We could modify it up or down. It will be interesting to see, so far....I think the data looks reasonable.

Similar proposal was put in to the sorc for consideration by lee sutter in January. I can't remember off the top of my head but it either didn't make the agenda or was not voted on.
The proposal was to give more points to classes with more boats. Ie when 22 region 10 csh run the winner gets more points than a winner in a region with only 6 entries....makes sense for the bigger regions, but does it help smaller clubs to get more entries or hinder them?Last edited by Racerkyle20; 07-20-2015, 09:08 PM.Kyle Bahl
