  • Boat Racing lost a good friend.

I heard on Face Book that Roy Reed, long time boat racer friend and supporter died last Monday. I met Roy at a Florida race in the late 1970's Roy kind of stepped in and helped me but I never knew his name. Later on that year at a race in Conn. I recognized the famous hat Roy was wearing and again was helping me. As time went on Roy joined the Eastern Outboard Racing Club on Long Island. Next thing he was racing stock outboard with his family and son Rocky was just starting to race. Roy purchased my 250 Butts Hydro and FA Konig engine for Rocky to run in the RB Hydro class. He relocated to Fl. from Queens NY in the 1980's but has always been active in the PRO category until his passing. He joined the crew for Neil LaRose 350 Hydro team and traveled with them for the last year. I saw Roy at Johnson City, US Title Series Race last Sept. That was the last time I saw him. I know I will miss him. The picture is of Roy working on my 500 Hydro at Avon Park, Fl. in 1979.
