Dana........Abby or Joyce will have to chime in but i would guess around 120 on Saturday. BSH and CSH each had 8 entries and were the largest classes. 20ssh had 7 enteries.

Hi Matt... Referencing your recent lively post on motor parity in J class you should initiate another discussion about competitiveness.... I understand that 20ssh was won by a Sidewinder by over 15 seconds both heats? (discuss)...

Brian..........i have the summary sheets and the Sidewinder you reference won by about 7-8 seconds over the second place Yamato 80 both heats (my daughter). My position on the 20ci Sidewinder in a Yamato class is well documented as both a SORC Commissioner and supporter of the Pavlick/Allen petition last year to get the Sidewinder out of 20ssh. But the drivers supported it being in the 20ssh class so i will have to live with it and compete as best i can with my Yamato.

Hi George - agree on your point - except let's call it "one motor and one race does not set the scale for parity in a class".

Hi Matt - understand your situation and appreciate you posting the results as well as sharing the specific details. If a trend is a general direction over time and a pattern is a recurring, recognizable form we will just gather a few more data points to adequately understand how this goes.

Dylan stole both starts by 3 seconds. It was embarrasing.

Dylan did not steal both starts, I crossed the line first in the second heat and beat everyone to the first turn. Adam Allen posted it to Facebook, I dont know how to post it on here. Dylan had speed on us but his starts did not give him an advantage.

Val is correct.........i ran Gary's Ultralite in 20ssh that he promptly sold to Herb Lamphear as soon as i got out of it. Ugh. I am still looking for my commission!!

So after our divisionals I made a comment to Donny that it may be time to switch to 302 for the 20 class to run with Dana and Joe.

Matt did you have your best stuff on the water with Val driving?

Big Don...........Val had my BEST Yamato 80 and prop on our B&H. I ran a Arlt Ultralite that Pond had just bought . Gary and i tested it the previous week at Lake Anna. It is 86 pounds and ran well testing and i had to add 20 pounds of lead!!!!. Val was still a little faster than the Pond Ultralite that had a good Pond Yamato 80 on it. I got down to the first turn with the pack but started to overheat and pulled off the course to save the motor. In my opinion Hinton is at so much elevation (1450ft) and the weather was hot in the 80's. The Yamato's and the Merc's back in the day always lose like 2-3mph. We GPS'd 63.5 with Val driving on weight with the Yamato 80 on the race course. I know for a fact that the Sidewinders (both the 15ci and the 20ci) do not lose hardly any speed at altitude and hot weather!! My guess is that since the Sidewinder is a modern state of the art racing engine it is not prone to weather and altitude like the 'Stock" Yamatos and Merc;s and OMC's. When i won CSH and 25ssh Nationals at Hinton in 1987 i was down almost 3mph in both classes but i guess everyone else was down 4 mph as i won both classes that year. Sooooo, i am not sure Hinton is such a good place to judge 'parity' between the Yamato's and Sidewinder since Hinton is such a hard place to maintain speed for the older motors.

That sounds very scientific, above my pay grade. Air density, elevation, fuel mixture and all that other crap doesn't know how old your motor is. Did you bother to retune your carburators, spark plugs or timing to compensate? I know we did.

I agree with that notion. Simple physics, chemistry, air density, and such other factors do not include the age and crankcase configuration of one brand of engine compared with any other brand of engine, regardless of race-site location and altitude. And according to my GPS, Lake Bluestone is at only 1400' elevation above sea level, not 1450' ... not that the 50-foot difference in elevation would make much power-producing difference in speed anyway.

Looking at the above, what is the minimum age to run 850 MR? Perhaps, Grant is older than I realize.

Dave..........no wonder you are a good banker. There were only two finishers in that race (Luce and Warren). I must have not had my 2nd cup of coffee when i copied off the summary sheets. But then again Grant would look good in one of those stout Luce Runabouts don't you think!!

Matt, never, ever a banker...but on the look out for a capable driver for the new 250cch. Figure if he/she can handle a 750MR that a 250ccH would be no issue! Meantime,I will do my best.
