Yeah, he was one of the good ones...I have known Bill all my life....literally...Bill's Mom used to babysit me as an infant. I am 51 now. Very very sad. My heart goes out to all his family and friends...I know Kay's health has not been the best. I feel so bad for her. She has a strong support system and that is so important. He will be missed. Godspeed, my friend. Say hi to my Pop for me...

I've been traveling to races in Northern California since I was a J driver and I always remember seeeing Bill. He had a very excitable personality I will not soon forget. Race in Peace Bill! I will miss seeing you at the races..

About a year and a half ago I sent Bill this private message, and today I share it with you...

Bill, I don't know if I ever told you the story...
Back in 1995 it was my first season. Being a motocross racer I drove the boats hard and crashed a lot, after a bad one at Cullaby my boat was all busted up. With my wife sleeping in the car I loaded my stuff up and when I started the motor she woke up. She asked what I was doing, I said, the boat is all busted to crap, I am going home. Bless her heart she says, what about that boat that's for sale, I turned the motor off.
We walked down and met you and Matt after striking a deal we then drove to the ATM took out all we could, after returning to the pits you agreed to take a check for the difference saying something about trust.
This is just a note thanking you for ending what might have been my last day in boat racing. had it not been for that day I might have lost out on what has been the greatest 20 years of my life.
        Thanks again, Dale Bartley 50-R

That was a great boat. If I recall it was my 20 ssH.

Matt, my heartfelt condolences on your Dad's passing.I never met him, but heard a lot about him. May he rest in peace. My prayers are to his soul and your family.
I kind of know how you feel as I just lost my wife a week ago Sunday. It is still hard. I received tremendous support from the racing community.

I didn't know Bill very well, but he was an integral part of our racing. He was a very talented and sharing mentor. I mostly remember how dedicated he was to Matt's success. My condolences to Matt and your family. Eric B.
