  • turn fin question

hey every one I have a dummy question.
Can you or are you aloud to mess with the turn fin at all? can you make it adjustable or moveable at all? in a up or down movement or any movement?

don't laugh out to load about the question now..

    Bryan,

The fin can't be adjustable while the boat is in operation.

They are made so you can adjust the depth and angle. Tilt up or down. You can cut them...no specs on size.

Just fixed in place while in operation.

Bryan, Adjustable fins were done in the 60's. They had good points and bad points. They were stopped as a safety issue. Putting down the fins would sometimes cause hydros to blow over. The other issue was the holddown levers would sometimes release themselves and cause some dangerous sudden lose of control. When all went well, you could turn full speed on a dime. They were mostly used on hydros, but there were a few runabout thru the bottom fins. The runabout fins were limited by the space available for them. I ran them while they were legal and they were great. I did cause myself to blow over in a 20H BSH once when I put the fin down.
